Take over a traditional English pub with bedrooms and full kitchen facilities, charmingly set in a quiet chocolate-box Somerset village, away from the crowds.

Ever wondered what it would be like to lord it in your very own pub, cheerfully pulling pints for family and friends as you host a lock-in to end all lock-ins?

Well, now's your chance to experience it in full!

As featured by The Daily Mail, The Fitzhead Inn is a charming 17th century village pub, perfectly located in rural Somerset, and surrounded by designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's the ideal setting for exploring the spectacular coastlines of Devon, not to mention the rolling landscapes of Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Of course, you'll have to leave your beloved pub first! And that could prove difficult, with absolutely everything you need for a comforting stay well in hand.

Dog-friendly, and perfect for up to ten guests, you'll have five elegant, en-suite bedrooms to choose from at kicking-out time (four doubles and one twin), each one traditionally furnished, and boasting its own TV.

There's also a fully-equipped commercial kitchen to whip up some gourmet pub grub in - after a quick induction from the friendly owner, you'll be all ready to go. The local farm will be happy to supply you with the best produce around; how about a slap-up, locally reared steak dinner, or a hearty breakfast of fresh eggs?

Meanwhile, the pub itself is a perfect haven for entertainment and relaxation alike. The fully operational bar comes complete with beer pumps, spirit measures, refrigeration and plenty of glasses.

Simply take that freshly pulled, perfectly chilled beer into the lounge and dining space, with its squishy seating and traditional log-burning stove. Switch on the TV, or just enjoy laughing and chatting with your favourite pub regulars!

Prefer relaxing al fresco? When the weather's good it'd be a shame to waste it, so you can always head outside to the dog-friendly Mediterranean-style courtyard instead, watching the sun set over a sizzling barbecue supper, and a freshly mixed G&T.

If you feel like getting out and about, you'll soon find there's plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. After all that hearty, locally sourced food, an invigorating walk could be just the ticket - and there are no greater walks to be found than those along these coastal paths.

Perhaps you'd prefer an historic day out to Dunster Castle on the edge of Exmoor, or maybe take in some amazing Somerset views from the mysterious Glastonbury Tor, or the caves of Cheddar Gorge?

However you decide to while away your days, you can return to your homely country pub whenever you like - even if that happens to be after ‘official' closing time. You're the one in charge, after all!

Things to note

The mobile phone signal is weak in the village - a landline is available in the pub if needed. Fresh farm eggs and bacon are provided for breakfast on your first morning, and you can also arrange with the owner for food shopping to be delivered in advance, chilled for your arrival. A cleaning fee of £125 applies, and pets are permitted but charged at £20 per pet.

Tried and tested

"This is a really great venue for a weekend away with family or friends. Lovely village and surrounding area, with lots of lanes to get lost in! David's place is really versatile and he's a great host. The beer on tap was a bonus and we have all honed our darts skills! We'll be back I am sure!"

"As a family of 6 (3 generations) plus a dog we were anticipating a wonderful Xmas break in a surprising location - a pub - and all to ourselves. We arrived a couple of days before xmas and were greeted by our host, David. We were shown around and advised where everything was. The bedrooms were excellent - warm, clean and tidy, well heated, plenty of hangers, and television and hot drinks facilities in all rooms. One bedroom had a shower room suitable for disability user (me) and all other rooms had en-suites. The lounge and bar areas provided plenty of eating and resting space and we appreciated the log fire making everything comfortable. The kitchen was huge - dish washer, microwave, fridge etc. Regrettably the weather could not be controlled but we had brought games with us as well as our xmas gifts. There were also some games provided. Taunton was an easy journey for a day out and one of our party went fly fishing at Bell Brook - caught 3 very nice trout for that evening's meal. Xmas day and the table provided plenty of space for our xmas roast. We decorated the table ourselves but David had decorated the room and the xmas tree that was in the courtyard . Our dog (a husky) made herself at home. A field about 5 minutes drive away provided a dog walking area. 5 stars in every way - an unbelievable experience."

"David was a great host and was extremely responsive to all questions and requests. The place was perfect for the group of us, with people being able to sit all together while also being able to make use of the bar and dart board as well. David also provided logs for the fire which added some extra warmth. The kitchen was really well stocked and it had all the equipment you'd need while visiting. The kitchen has a dishwasher as well which made the washing up even easier. The bedrooms were really nicely decorated and were very comfortable. David made sure to have the heating on ready for us so it was lovely and warm. We opted to buy some Cider and Ale through David and it was all prepared and plumbed in ready for us. It was lots of fun and everyone enjoyed being able to pull themselves a pint. The parking is on the road but there is a lot of space so even with 5 cars we had no problem with parking. Everyone had a great time and thought the place was very charming. We would definitely recommend staying here!"
