Be the king or queen of your own castle when you stay at the magnificent Tawstock Castle, in the heart of the North Devon countryside.

A truly unique holiday home, Tawstock Castle is an impressive sight.  Standing on a motte, surrounded by lawned gardens, and enclosed by a circular bailey, this Grade II listed castle now offers a luxurious self-catering stay for eight people.

You can't help but feel like royalty as you enter the gates to Tawstock Castle and its five fabulous turrets.  Or, if your fancy takes you, why not arrive by helicopter? The grounds have their own helipad!

Parts of the castle date back to the 18th Century, but have no fears about chills and draughts - the whole building has been beautifully refurbished to offer all modern comforts whilst respecting the castle's heritage.

The beautiful ground floor is where you'll find an impressive 35-foot reception room, with comfortable sofas, wooden floors and a cosy wood-burning fire.   You can also enjoy every meal in this gorgeous room, seated around the large, contemporary dining table.  Every detail has been finished to perfection, from the turret recesses at the corners of the room, to the stunning, panelled ceiling.  You'll also find a study, a shower room, and a modern, fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor, complete with a convenient utility room.

Downstairs on the lower ground floor are two of Tawstock Castle's four bedrooms.  The first is a comfortable double bedroom, and the second, a fairy-tale twin bedroom with two four-poster single beds - perfect for little princes and princesses!  Both rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms, comprising baths with showers overhead.

As you ascend the spiral staircase of the tower, you'll discover Tawstock Castle's remaining two bedrooms.  These are both utterly unique, circular bedrooms, with views out across the countryside.  On the first floor is a double room, which also opens to the large roof terrace.  The second floor tower room is another twin bedroom - a cosy place to dream of knights and dragons!

The third floor of the tower gives you access to the tower lookout, and it's definitely worth the climb!  Enjoy 360° views of glorious Devon from this unique spot; to the north-west, you'll see across to Saunton Burrows and the sea, and to the south and east, bask in the beauty of Taw Valley - stunning at any time of year.

Tawstock Castle may seem remote given its location in the middle of open countryside, but it's very conveniently located for bustling Barnstaple and all its facilities.  This main town of North Devon is only a short drive away, offering a good mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes.  There's always something going on here, from theatre performances to October's North Devon Foodfest.

Further afield, you have the whole of Devon at your feet, from gem towns including Minehead, Bideford and Holsworthy, to historic homes and gardens that include the former home of Agatha Christie - Greenway House and Gardens.  Nature lovers can visit one of the many Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves in the area, and don't forget a visit to spectacular Exmoor while you're here.  The famous sandy surfing beaches of Saunton, Woolacombe and Croyde are in easy distance, and there are a whole host of walking trails on your doorstep - including the famous Tarka Trail.

Alternatively, you'd be forgiven for simply soaking up every minute of each day at your magnificent holiday home.  Whether you're looking to enjoy a special retreat with friends and family, or fulfilling childhood dreams of a fairy-tale abode, your wishes are guaranteed to come true at Tawstock Castle.
