Stay Wild
England / Ash, Kent
Full description
A lovingly restored slice of Americana, in the form of a vintage yellow bus that's permanently stopped in an idyllic green Garden of England field.
An imaginative and lovingly crafted retreat for two, Stay Wild offers you the chance to stay aboard a vintage, bright yellow, 40ft-long bus, plucked straight out of 1970s America.
Friendly owner Aly fell in love with the then-derelict bus, and got straight to work on transforming it into the rustic, off-grid retreat you'll now discover parked in a calming green field, in a sleepy hamlet next to the village of Ash, Kent, between Sandwich and Canterbury.
Adjoining a working farm, there'll often be several free-roaming sheep in the area - ideal if you fancy a bit of extra company to go with that morning cuppa!
Once on board, you can stretch out and relax in a luxurious 190 square feet of living space... equipped with a gorgeously squishy sofa and plump cushions, a comfy dining area, a Steampunk wood-burner, and rustic design features that will make you feel as though you're hunkering down in a luxury cabin.
A thoughtfully chosen selection of books will help to fire your imagination and nurture those daydreams - when you're not outside gazing dreamily across the field, that is!
Simply light the firepit, and get ready to greet the stars and the moon rising in the clear night sky, as you laugh, tell stories, and toast a few marshmallows together. Stay up as long as you like... after all, you're only a few steps away from your downy kingsize bed.
When you wake from your sound night's sleep, you can whip up a hearty breakfast in the on-board kitchen, which comes with everything you'd expect from a first-class retreat: namely, a hob, oven, fridge-freezer, a sink, and all the accessories you could want. You'll even find a goodie-stuffed welcome hamper to greet you.
Oh, and in case you were wondering what off-grid accommodation parked in a field would mean ablution-wise, the bus is equipped with a stunning industrial-style bathroom. Here you'll find a shower with gleaming copper fittings and plenty of piping hot water, a WC, and a supply of fluffy towels.
(Put it this way... though the bus may be vintage, the facilities are anything but!)
Though you'll feel miles from anywhere in particular, there's plenty to see and do in the local area, if you can muster up the will to leave.
The medieval town of Sandwich is a few minutes' drive away with the city of Canterbury, and the iconic coastal towns of Margate and Deal within easy reach. Though if you don't want to travel too far, Ash is home to a small, friendly selection of pubs, cafés, and shops.
With everything you could possibly need on board, and a wealth of attractions within ridiculously easy reach, you could find that life in the slow lane suits you right down to the ground!
Things to note
Check in from 3-9pm, check out by 11am. Children are allowed although there is only the king size bed. Pets are regrettably not permitted.
