Full description
A detailed conversion of the ticket office and staff quarters at a former station on the Forge Valley Line, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

Carrying passengers on the historic Forge Valley Line until 1950 (first as Wilton Station, and then as Ebberston Station), The Old Station at Allerston is home to a selection of lovingly restored, first-class retreats.

Once a bustling hive of activity, the Ticket Office and linked staff quarters have been carefully refurbished as a holiday cottage that's just the ticket for railway enthusiasts, or simply those who appreciate vintage-styled accommodation on the edge of the scenic North York Moors.

Sleeping up to four adults, there are two comfortable, spacious bedrooms, both of which feature either a superking or twin beds - whichever you prefer. Each bedroom also boasts its own en-suite with a roomy walk-in shower, so there'll be no queueing for morning freshen-ups.

Close attention has been paid to preserving the ticket office's original features, many of which you'll discover in the cosy lounge and dining area, along with a warming wood-burning stove in the original fireplace.

Vintage posters and framed railway maps adorn the walls, while the furnishings have been painstakingly chosen to evoke a sense of soothing times past.

Not that you'll be without modern conveniences during your stay.  The well-equipped kitchen is home to all the facilities a luxury-loving holidaymaker might expect, including a dishwasher and a washer-dryer.

There's also underfloor heating throughout, so your evenings will feel irresistibly toasty. Light the wood-burning stove, pour a welcome drink, and sink into a leather sofa, for relaxed, laughter-fuelled conversations that last long into the night.

(Though if the sun is shining, you may prefer unwinding in your private garden area, instead).

How best to spend your days? Well, Allerston is perfectly positioned to explore rural Ryedale in all its glory, with miles of flat cycle-worthy trails in the Vale of Pickering, or mountain biking in nearby Dalby Forest.  Don't worry if you haven't brought your bike, as you can hire them locally.

If your stay at the Ticket Office has whetted your appetite for rail travel, you can hop aboard a steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and take a scenic journey through the National Park.

Oh, and with Scarborough a mere 12 miles away, you can even spend a day at the beach.

In fact, with so much to see and do on the doorstep, you may feel inclined to make your escape to the Ticket Office a one-way trip!

Things to note

The Ticket Office is adults-only accommodation. The friendly owners are on hand in the nearby Station House for guidance if needed. Minimum stay before Easter and after October, 3 nights. From Easter until the end of October full weeks only, Friday - Friday.
