Live the first-class life at The Old Station, where three stunning railway carriages await at the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors.
  • Sleeps: up to 6 per carriage
  • Bedrooms: 2-3 per carriage
  • Bathroom: 1 per carriage
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

The Old Station at Allerston served passengers on the Forge Valley Line until 1950, firstly as Wilton Station and then as Ebberston Station.  Today, it’s home to three beautifully preserved and converted First Class Corridor carriages, each one providing self-catering accommodation for up to six people.

These carriages were built in the late 1960s and you’ll be pleased to know not much has changed!  The exterior of each carriage has been restored and repainted in LNER tourist class green & cream, and they now stand proudly in train formation on the old line, waiting for their fortunate guests.

Step on board and you’ll notice elements of the original layout have been retained, with bedrooms found in former seating compartments and a corridor running down one side of the carriage.  Other touches, including wood panelling and mid-century-style furniture, give the sense of stepping back in time to some Sixties’ sophistication.

Each carriage comes with everything you need for your stay, including a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave, and fridge.  Enjoy your meals around the retro dining table while looking out across the countryside that surrounds The Old Station.  Leading through, you’ll find yourself in the unusual sitting room, where a row of first-class train seats features alongside easy chairs and coffee tables!  Sit back, relax, and enjoy your favourite film on the TV and DVD player (Brief Encounter, perhaps…?).

Each carriage offers a slightly different sleeping arrangement, but all sleep six in total, with extra space for a cot on request.  Carriage 1 is fitted out with one double bedroom, one twin room, and a third bedroom with a single bed and single bunk bed.  Carriage 2 also has a double bedroom, as well as two bedrooms offering a single bed and a single bunk bed in each.  Finally, Carriage 3 has two bedrooms, which each offer a double bed and single bunk bed.  Whichever carriage you choose, though, you can look forward to nights of peaceful slumber in your own special sleeper train.

All carriages are also equipped with a bathroom and WC, while useful laundry facilities are provided in the Staff Tool Van nearby.  And if you need anything, the owners are on hand in the Station House to help out with any questions or problems.

The Old Station is a perfect place to take the family, with two acres of grounds for children to let off steam and play. They’ll also enjoy hours of fun with the selection of toys, games and bicycles on offer.  And after they’ve worked up an appetite, treat them to a BBQ and savour it together at the picnic bench beside your carriage.
