The Birdwatchers' Cabin
Scotland / Golspie, Sutherland
Full description
Take in the vast natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands, from a luxury cabin with wildlife, lake, and mountain views.
You simply couldn't imagine a more picture-perfect setting from which to enjoy the Scottish Highlands, than The Birdwatchers' Cabin.
Nestled on the shores of the tidal Loch Fleet, in a secluded corner of the wild, mountainous Balblair Woods, this is the place to experience everything this jaw-droppingly beautiful part of the world is so well-known for.
For starters, there's a National Nature Reserve literally on the doorstep, with woodland trails that lead through carpets of rare flowers, sparkling ponds, and rows of soaring pine, larch and spruce trees. You'll be sure to catch regular glimpses of ospreys, pine martens, deer, otters, and red squirrels - to name but a few!
Sleeping up to four guests, the rustic wooden cabin magnificently showcases these amazing surroundings, amongst luxury hotel-style levels of comfort.
Naturally, you can expect spectacular views, both inside and out. Glass patio doors cover an entire wall of the cabin, so you can keep an eye on the comings and goings of the many feathered friends who visit the loch (well, this is The Birdwatchers' Cabin, after all!) Watch the tide roll in and out over morning coffee on the raised deck, for a wonderfully soothing start to your day.
Your accommodation is generously spaced throughout the large, single-level studio cabin, which includes a well-equipped kitchen area, a living space with squishy seating, a wall-mounted TV, and a warming wood-burner. Finally, there's a cosy sleeping section, complete with a kingsize bed (there's also a sofa bed for two extra guests).
With your bed perfectly placed to look out over the loch and the clear, star-studded sky, you can expect a deeply comforting sleep, then wake to the most magnificent morning views.
Freshen up in the Caithness slate rainfall shower, then enjoy a hearty breakfast basket, bursting with delicious goodies (if the mood takes you, you can also order an evening meal kit for two, with wine and dessert - what a treat!)
You may need to plan your activities as you enjoy that breakfast, as there's a great deal to see and do in the local area. There are many walking and cycle routes to get lost in, or you may prefer a day out to Dunrobin Castle, with its regular falconry displays, and beautiful gardens to stroll through.
Arrange a whisky and gin tasting tour at the Carnegie Whisky Cellars in nearby Dornoch, play a few rounds of golf, or even book yourselves in for a spa treatment or two!
Or if you prefer, simply meander along with your binoculars to the bird hide close to your cabin, and settle yourselves in for even more of those wondrous (and completely addictive!) wildlife views.
Things to note
Check in is at 3pm, check out is at 11am.
