Perfect for starry-eyed couples and intrepid solo travellers alike, The Stable Bothy is a soothing, soul-nurturing retreat in the wild hills of the Scottish Highlands.
Surrounded by unspoilt rural loveliness, it will be hard to believe that you’re a mere pebble-skim away from the iconic North Coast 500 driving route – otherwise known as one of the world’s most beautiful road trips.
And as if that wasn’t enough, a wealth of adventures await right from the doorstep, including golf, hillwalking, and exploring ancient monuments. Yet once you’ve settled into this sumptuously converted stable, you could feel extremely reluctant to leave.
A former home to the croft’s pony and calves, the building has stood for 200 years. Inside, exposed stone walls and wooden lintels tell captivating stories from the past, while plush furniture and sleek appliances offer plenty of modern luxury.
Outside, the natural garden merges perfectly with that dramatic, wildlife-steeped landscape, while the scenic patio is ideal for morning coffee, sunset tipples, and starlit conversation (if you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights, too).
If the weather is chilly, simply light the log-burner for a warming glow as you gaze out of the enormous picture windows, cradling a steaming mug of hot chocolate on the sofa. Those big sky window-views are so magnificent, in fact, that you could start hoping for a storm to brew! And although you’ll have a Smart TV, books and games to keep you entertained, you could find the ever-changing Highlands scenery is all you need.
There’s a well-equipped kitchen and dining area for mealtimes, including those all-important holiday conveniences: namely, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and Nespresso coffee. You’ll also be welcomed with a hamper of local artisan products, to help get your stay off to a delicious start.

When sleep calls, the elegant bedroom will be waiting with a super-comfortable kingsize bed dressed in luxury linens. Oh, and not forgetting the separate shower room, furnished with organic Highland Soap Co. products, underfloor heating (and a heated towel rail!), fluffy towels… and an indulgent walk-in rainfall shower, for the ultimate in freshen-ups.
If you can bear to leave your new-found sanctuary, there’s plenty to discover. Take your pick of intriguing local distillery tours, including Glenmorangie and Dalmore, or head to nearby Dornoch to visit the independent Carnegie Whisky Cellars.
There are plenty of pubs and restaurants to hole up in close by, too, as well as grand historic sites that include the Castle of Mey in Caithness – a favourite retreat of the late Queen Mother.
What else? Inverness is just over an hour’s drive away, for those looking to journey deeper into the Highlands. Yet you won’t need to leave the bothy at all to spot majestic local wildlife, and there are some incredible croft walks to be taken from the front door – meaning your stay can be as relaxing or as adventurous as you choose.

Regrettably, pets and children are not permitted to stay. Towels for the shower room are provided, but please bring your own beach towels.
