Sleeping up to 6 people, the spacious, open-plan Upper Lodge is the ideal location for a group holiday with a sparklingly scenic difference.
Perfectly situated on a quiet lane close to the tip of the Shotley Peninsula, itself beautifully positioned between the picturesque Rivers Orwell and Stour, Upper Lodge is the result of an expert collaboration between the locally renowned Andrew Hughes and David Gibson Architects – whose brief was to create a stylish and contemporary living space that complemented its surroundings, whilst also addressing sustainability concerns.
Upper Lodge is a mostly single-storey building, purposefully configured to make the most of the panoramic river and countryside views with a wall of windows in the main living space that allow natural light to flood beautifully inside, with doors that open out onto a welcoming deck and garden. You’ll find plenty of hanging and storage space throughout, and a handy shed outside for storing bikes and sailing equipment.
Make the most of the exceptional scenery with wooden stairs that lead to a stunning first-floor lookout – the ideal spot for watching boats glide by on the River Orwell (with the port of Felixstowe in the distance) as well as keeping an eye out for the abundant local wildlife…or even simply relaxing with a book. Later on, why not use the telescope provided and try to name some stars?
The garden is perfect for lovers of the great outdoors, wrapping around three sides of the house and offering plenty of space for barbecues and al fresco conversation, as well as games of any description!
Continue the games inside, with table football in the far end of the main living area…and at the other end discover a well-equipped designer kitchen with a refectory table, benches and chairs that will soon have everyone relaxing over a few glasses of wine and a hearty meal.
Discover three spacious bedrooms at the back of the house – simply claim your favourite. The south-facing master bedroom is wonderfully sunny, with a luxurious king-sized bed and matching units. Cleverly concealed within cupboard doors, you’ll find a warming ensuite shower room!
