  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

For a blissfully tranquil romantic break infused with authentic medieval-style luxury, head for the South Wales city of Monmouthshire, where you’ll discover a beautiful period property that contains over seven hundred years of history within its imposing walls.

Originally constructed in the time of King Edward I at around 1270, The Welsh Gatehouse’s two elegant towers, arched windows, high ceilings and gently curved walls will make you feel as though you’ve been magically transported back in time to become medieval royalty yourselves, in your very own castle-style quarters that feature all the amenities you might expect from a more modern hotel suite!

Approach the Gatehouse through immaculate grounds bursting with fresh plants, flowers and bird life, via flagstone pathways and through an external gate, and enter your privately welcoming haven from times past, lovingly brought into the present day with light-attracting white painted walls and contemporary fixtures and fittings.

A steep spiral staircase will lead you to the first floor, where you’ll discover a cosy lounge area complete with traditional fireplace, wood burner and a sofa that’s perfect for curling up on, along with an obligatory glass of mead.

The bright, homely kitchen area contains all you need to prepare your very own medieval banquets, with a charming dining table situated by the window for you to survey soothing green gardens as you enjoy your meals.  Perhaps indulge in dining al fresco on balmier nights, with a dedicated barbecue area and outdoor furniture just waiting to be enjoyed.

Back inside, the roomy bathroom handily doubles as a wetroom, containing a warming shower, toilet and sink.  Climb the companionway ladder to your beautifully-dressed galleried bedroom area, featuring mood lighting and a comfy double bed.

Wooden steps will lead you to the second floor, featuring a pretty dressing room and luggage area.  A few more steps will reveal an exit door that opens onto the jewel in the Gatehouse’s crown – the very top of the tower, with its wonderful viewing platform that looks out over the lush grounds and Courtyard House.  Perfect for stargazing by night…why not see if you can spot the occasional shooting star or two?

love to go again.”
