Sublimely positioned between the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean on the English/Welsh border, Wyes Workshop at Oak Cottage feels like stepping into a magical new world. In other words, it’s a perfect setting for weary souls in need of a digital-free escape.
Here you’ll discover four generously-spaced, adults-only retreats that look as though they’ve been plucked straight from the pages of a fairytale. Each has the feel of camping in the Great Outdoors, paired with the convenience of a cosy bed and private self-contained facilities – including fresh bedding and towels – for the ultimate in comfort!
As if that wasn’t quite enough, you’ll also have the option of a stargazing soak in a wood-fired hot tub, which is available as an optional extra (at an additional cost), right by your chosen retreat and pre-warmed for your arrival… bliss.
So, which retreat will you choose? Each one sleeps up to two guests and is dog-friendly, so your best four-legged friend can enjoy a well-deserved holiday, too. The Couples’ Cabin is a rustic, romantic bolthole with a log burner for snuggly evenings in, and a secluded veranda for lazy afternoons chatting over a glass or two of wine.
The Gypsy Caravan with Bathhouse is a ‘Peaky Blinders’-style sanctuary with a vibrant wagon as living and sleeping space, a piping-hot oak tree shower, and a gorgeous glass-roofed bathhouse with a jet-bath for two!
Meanwhile, The Yurt boasts a raised kingsize bed that faces the woodland canopy, and a full covered kitchen in the private garden… where you’ll also find a ‘magic toadstool’ loo and a shower under the trees. And last but not least, The Hideaway Hut is deliciously hidden away in a secret fairy circle, with natural woodworking and creative décor.
Breakfast ingredients are included in your stay, and for dinner you can order a mouth-watering Supper Salad Hamper, with organic steak from the village farm and a slice of Welsh blue cheese – a delicious way to begin your break!

More information
You’ll also find plenty of ways to inspire and entertain yourselves in the local area, from walking the Offa’s Dyke footpath (where the site is situated), to canoeing on the River Wye – pub stops included! There are also two ridiculously easy-to-use e-bikes available to hire on site, which you can use to whiz your way to Symonds Yat, Monmouth, and through the Forest of Dean, to name just a few incredible places!
Whichever form of transport you choose, owner Anna has thoughtfully mapped out a variety of routes and options – stops for refreshments and sightseeing included – so all you have to do is pick a favourite and go.
Anna is also a trained Equine Facilitator, and runs ‘Prescribe a Pony’ sessions that help soothe and ground guests as they interact with her horses… whether observing them from afar, or working one-on-one in the secure woodchip paddock.
What else? Book a forest bathing session in the ancient Hudnalls woodland that surrounds the site, or use Anna’s mapped route through the woods to The George Inn for some welcome refreshment. The choice is yours!
