A super-luxe, adults-only eco-cabin with an al fresco stone bathtub for stargazing, peacefully secluded in a vast, wildlife-steeped field in Northumberland’s Edlingham Valley.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Dreamily inspired by nature and privately secluded in a historic four-and-a-half-acre glebe field, The Glebe Retreat was named by The Times as one of their 25 Best Cabin Stays in the UK.

Perfect for a romantic couple, the wood-crafted eco-lodge has been lovingly built to biophilic design principles, in a way that promises to re-connect you with the natural world. And since this is an adults-only retreat, you’ll have a good excuse to call your favourite babysitter back home.

Although you’ll feel miles away from civilisation, The Glebe Retreat’s perfect position in Northumberland’s Edlingham valley – between the sweeping coast and the National Park AONB – means there’s plenty of scope for exploring.

Yet once you’ve made your way along the tranquil gravel road that leads to your newfound sanctuary, all thoughts of leaving may evaporate. Cleverly divided into four zones that reflect the elements of nature, you’ll feel relaxed and pampered from the moment you arrive.

The main living space – or ‘Earth’ – is gently elevated, for a luxurious sense of floating above the ground. Designer furnishings and indulgent accessories, including a Bang and Olufsen Bluetooth speaker and a sleek Nespresso machine, evoke an atmosphere of opulence, while toasty insulation will keep you warm and comfortable.

If the sun happens to be shining, head out to the generous deck with a well-deserved glass of Prosecco and unwind to a gentle soundtrack of birdsong and rustling leaves… what bliss. You could also grab a book and make for the gorgeous basalt lava chair, suspended from a nearby tree branch, for a whimsical way to spend some holiday time.

‘Water’ is taken care of by the sumptuous al fresco bath. Expertly carved from a river stone boulder, it’s roomy enough for two and ideal for lazy bubble-soaked evenings under Northumberland’s famously dark, starry skies… with luxury robes on hand to wrap yourselves up in afterwards.

“Wow! Where to start? We were totally blown away by the beauty of The Glebe, the peace, dark skies (we saw an incredible shooting star within an hour of being here!) and have loved watching the sunrises and the stars from the beautiful decking. We could easily have spent a week here. We will be back!”
