Experience farm-fresh living and incredible views, from the comfort of a luxury geodesic dome in the North Yorkshire Wolds.

Ever wanted to live a scenic life down on the farm, without having to pull on your wellies and rough it in a tent?

The Private Hill is your answer, an enticingly elegant selection of luxury geodesic domes secluded on the awe-inspiring edge of the North Yorkshire Wolds with a 5* Gold rating and Unique Accommodation Accolade from Quality in Tourism.

Packed with five star hotel-levels of cosiness, you can gaze across at the pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle, and listen to the distant bleating of the resident sheep, as you cradle fresh coffee and admire that glorious sunrise.

Each ensuite, 40 m2 dome is named after one of those beautiful cattle, and you'll find it roomy enough to sleep up to two adults and two children in sumptuous comfort.

Equipped with flushing toilets and piping hot showers (so there'll be no traipsing across muddy fields!), your superking or twin beds will be dressed in fresh sheets and downy duvets...and you'll even have a choice of pillows.

(Of course, the kids might opt for the hanging cocoon-style beds instead, which are perfect for adventurous little ones up to the age of 7).

Meanwhile, there's a fully-stocked minibar fridge with freezer drawer, and a kitchenette equipped with everything from a microwave to a Nespresso coffee machine. There's a private barbecue area too, so you can get everyone together for a sizzling al fresco supper. Later on, simply light the crackling wood burning stove and fire up the Sonos speakers, to set the perfect evening mood.

When morning rolls around, gourmet North Yorkshire breakfasts are deliciously taken care of at Jane's Dome nearby. Simply wander along and relax with a newspaper, while later on you can indulge in some well-deserved tea and a slice of freshly-baked cake.

You'll also find a handy shop area, stocked with local products including home-reared meat for the barbecue, more of that delicious cake, and even some locally-sourced frozen meals for the microwave!

There are plenty of ways for everybody to spend their time well at The Private Hill. Why not take a guided tour of the farm, where you'll be able to meet some of the animals in person (occasionally, the kids will even be invited to help collect fresh eggs for breakfast, or take a fun tractor ride).

If you've brought your bikes along, you can whizz through the surrounding lanes, or meander along on horseback with a riding lesson. There are some friendly pubs close by, while other local delights include Flamingo Land, Castle Howard, Malton - with its amazing Food Festival - and the stunning city of York, a mere 25 minutes away.

However, we wouldn't blame you if all you wanted to do was stay snuggled in your cosy dome, gazing out across that ever-changing Vale of York scenery to your heart's content.

Tried and tested

"Absolutely without equal. This undiscovered corner of Yorkshire can be yours alone for a night or two and the location is simply spectacular. These last few days - sunny yet with a hint of autumn's splendours - have provided peace and wellbeing in bucket loads and I really can't wait to explore the area again. Get yourself organised and motor over there before too many folks discover its magical charms. I am so pleased to be seeing Roddy and Jane's wonderful project in its early days. Their enthusiasm for what they are doing is truly infectious. And the hot chocolate and cake by Jane certainly beats anything in my Girl Guide camp!"

"A hidden gem. I don't really write reviews as a rule. It has to be pretty special for me to do it as I don't want to list minor criticisms of places for the sake of it. However, our stay at Thrussedale farm has been faultless so I feel compelled to write it down. Our host, Roddy, and Jane on our final morning, were amazing from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble and he went above and beyond throughout our entire stay. We were made to feel as if we were guests of theirs."

"This was a brilliant weekend for our family we had a relaxing time intertwined some activities from Roddy! Our hosts Roddy and Jane were helpful accommodating and doing everything to make sure our stay was the best possible. Roddy took us to see the Cattle and the Sheep, showed us the areas of the farm to explore and got a wonderful gift of some eggs (my son's favourite is scrambled eggs in the morning!) We did some stargazing and with the telescope and with little light pollution we saw the rings of Saturn and the red sands of Jupiter. The views are to die for in this part of the country, I cannot recommend this enough. Slept like a baby on the farm it was so peaceful, we all came home refreshed from the trip. Whether it's an organised family group, just a few nights away as a family, a yoga retreat or a club camp, I think Roddy and Jane would be happy to accommodate."
