Seventies Studio Margate
England / Margate, Kent
Full description
A self-contained ‘time capsule' apartment covering the entire top floor of a townhouse in the heart of Margate, with fabulous views of Dreamland and the beach.
A retro-styled penthouse apartment, Seventies Studio Margate looks as though it's been plucked straight from the set of ‘Abigail's Party'.
A riot of classic brown, cream, and orange tones, funky prints adorn the walls and kitchen tiles, while friendly owner Jessie Rose has seen to it that just about every accessory is authentically ‘70s.
(Well, maybe apart from the modern TV, microwave, and Wi-Fi!)
You'll find the glorious ‘time capsule' apartment covering the entire top floor in Jessie Rose's central Margate townhouse, just a stone's throw from the beach, and iconic attractions that include Dreamland and the Turner Contemporary.
You'll need to pass through the house to access the apartment, perhaps saying hello to Jessie Rose's adorable poodle, Rosa, on your way! But once you're in, it's all yours.
Fully self-contained, there's a funky kitchenette with everything you'll need to rustle up drinks and snacks (Babycham with cheese-and-pineapple sticks, anyone?) There's also a private bathroom - cream-and-orange-tiled, of course - with both a shower, and a baby-blue corner bath.
Ideal for a couple, there's a comfy double bed to curl up in at the end of an exhausting day exploring Margate, plus a sofa bed that can accommodate an extra guest if needed.
There's also a cushion-festooned wooden window seat that showcases spectacular views of both Dreamland and the beach, just in case you're feeling too lazy to leave... or if you want to feel ridiculously cosy with a good book and a cuppa, should rain start to fall.
If you're in the mood to get out and about, you'll find a selection of maps and history books in the apartment, to help you create your own Margate adventure. Why not begin your day with a hearty, fuelling breakfast at The Greedy Cow Café in the Old Town?
You'll also discover an abundance of antique and vintage shops to weave in and out of... continuing the ‘step back in time' theme of your break!
Meanwhile, art and culture enthusiasts will adore the fascinating Shell Grotto, and little art-surprises that include Antony Gormley's ‘Another Time' sculpture - one of a hundred cast-iron figures - rising from the sea.
And of course, you'll find plenty to satisfy confirmed foodies, not to mention lovers of cocktails, live music, and buzzing nightlife. Yet returning to Seventies Studio Margate may just be the highlight of your holiday.
Things to note
Check in after 4pm, check out by 10am. Please note that you will have some flights of stairs to climb in order to access the apartment. A friendly, well-behaved standard poodle lives at the property. Cleaning fee also applies on top of booking price.
