River Eye Treehouse
Norway / Tessungdalen, Telemark
The mission of Å camp, located in the Norwegian valley of Tessungdalen, is to provide visitors with a friendly, authentic and immersive experience of the natural world.
Set on the edge of the glorious Hardangervidda mountain plateau, and with a beautifully unspoilt river flowing by, what a natural world you're set to experience! Ripe with opportunities to fish, ski, hike and kayak amongst the most incredible surroundings nature has to offer, this is a truly exhilarating opportunity to escape from tired everyday life.
Isaac, Å camp's welcoming owner, is part of a family who has lived and worked in this spectacular area of Norway for generations. He has developed his camp to perfectly complement the unique natural elements all around, and with a stay in the hand-built treehouse Å auge (meaning ‘River Eye' in English), we're sure you'll agree that he has more than succeeded.
Constructed in 2017, off-grid River Eye is perfectly secluded amongst the forest leaves. Imagine your childhood fantasy treehouse made luxuriously real, as you climb the wooden steps and open the door onto a whole new world of nature.
Beautifully crafted from light wood, the décor throughout is pure and minimalist, with stunning features that include huge, light-filled windows that provide stunning viewing platforms through the trees, over the river and out towards the mountaintops (indeed, the large front window is your ‘river eye'!)
Small groups can be easily accommodated here, with one queen bed, two doubles and three floor mattresses making for a cosy family or friends' getaway. Make sure you claim the loft space situated beneath a truly awe-inspiring skylight - we guarantee there's no better way to drift asleep than directly underneath the twinkling stars.
By evening, huddle around the communal campfire or congregate around your woodburning stove to discuss the day's activities, while mealtimes are made simple with the addition of a well-equipped treehouse kitchen. Meanwhile, a nearby well provides you with plenty of fresh water.
Immerse yourself in true natural living by taking a cool dip in the river, or for a special treat, light a fire and heat up some river water to fill the camp's very own Bushbath, an indulgent tub set deep in the forest.
If you're in the mood to relax, there's simply no better setting to curl up with a good book than Å camp. However, if you want to really experience Norwegian nature at its finest, why not get out and discover all its delights up close?
You'll find Isaac a fountain of knowledge about local activities and the best ways to spend your time, from simple wildlife watching to energetic group hikes and fishing expeditions. The nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Rjukan makes for a fascinating day out, steeped in wartime history and majestic scenery alike.
If you're looking for fresh adventure and a delicious taste of natural living, you'll soon find that a simple stay at River Eye Treehouse will convert you for life. So get ready to ditch that laptop and reconnect with your loved ones in breathtakingly scenic style.
