Make like Bilbo Baggins, in a quirky and authentic hobbit home built right into the windswept Scottish hillsides.

Fancy living the hobbit life, but without the arduous journey and heart-stopping battles Bilbo Baggins encountered in ‘Lord of the Rings?'

Now, Craighead Howf, a traditional, welcoming Scottish stone-built farmhouse and steading in Perthshire, offers you the chance to do just that.  With Burrow and Bagend, two purpose-built hobbit homes nestled in spectacular countryside close to Dunblane, your stay will be magically infused with the spirit of the wilderness from the moment you arrive.

Surrounded by two acres of flourishing gardens, a sparkling lochan and enchanting woodland areas, a more perfect setting just couldn't be imagined.  What's more, you won't be too far away from civilisation, with some of Scotland's finest tourist attractions within easy reach.

"Howf" is a warm Scottish word for a favourite haunt of family and friends...and you'll find Burrow and Bagend Howfs are both very aptly-named.

Both off-grid Howfs are built right into the hillsides, bespoke-crafted from stone and wood to blend beautifully with their rural surroundings.  Those refreshing views are sprinkled with friendly goats and cows, with endless stretches of countryside to take in all around.

Meanwhile, the grassy roof and colourful round doors set the scene - these are truly homes that any self-respecting hobbit would be proud to call their own!

Inside awaits every wilderness-dweller's dream; a home imaginatively furnished in hand-crafted wood, with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.

You'll find the cosy handmade double bed dressed in fresh linen, ideal for lazy lie-ins.  With a stargazing window set above the bed for you to enjoy the sunrise in all its glory, why bother getting up at all?

The wood-burning stove will keep you warm and toasty whatever the weather, and you'll find kitchen and bathroom facilities are plentiful.  A piping hot, hobbit-style shower with hand-carved wooden sink provides the perfect spot to freshen up, while just next door you'll find your own private, eco-friendly compost toilet.

There's plenty to do in the local area if you feel like venturing out (though we wouldn't blame you if you wanted to laze in the gardens and make firm friends with the farm animals all stay long!), with a large variety of walks and Edinburgh and Glasgow both in easy reach for those hankering after a taste of big city life.

But for now, why not open a well-deserved bottle of wine and take your seats outside for nature's evening show?  Fire up the barbecue and enjoy a sizzling supper as you watch the endless varieties of birds soaring overhead, with the blazing sun sinking over that glorious horizon.  Your holiday in Hobbit heaven has only just begun.
