A Little Bit of Rough
Luxury, eco-friendly camping experience set in 20 acres of private woodland in a secret location in Rutland.
Whether it's the gorgeous luxury canvas lodges or the stunning woodland location that attract you to A Little Bit of Rough, you can certainly look forward to a holiday like no other.
Based in a secret location in Rutland's rolling countryside, A Little Bit of Rough offers a luxury camping experience set amongst 20 acres of private woodland. With only four lodges for hire, escape from the world in near-seclusion, taking time instead to appreciate the nature that surrounds you.
Named Oak, Ash, Willow & Birch, these canvas lodges take ‘glamping' to the next level; in fact, camping couldn't possibly get more glamorous! Sleeping six in each, they both offer outstanding levels of luxury and unbeatable views across the stunning valley below.
Inside, you'll find exceptional comfort in every room. The lounge area is a cosy place to relax, furnished with a leather sofa, woven pouffes and an old, large chest. Look inside for games and books to while away your evenings, and bug hunting kits for the little ones (and not-so-little ones!). Opposite, you'll find the dining table and the large wood-burning stove, which heats the whole lodge and also provides a means of cooking.
All the pots and pans you'll need, as well as cutlery, crockery and a solar-powered fridge/freezer, are found in the very well-appointed kitchen area. A single-ring gas stove is provided for that all important cuppa!
Each lodge also comes with its own outdoor BBQ area, as well as a large elevated deck with a glass balustrade. Complete with reclining chairs and a large dining table, this offers a perfect vantage point for keeping an eye on the children as they play, or simply for enjoying a bottle of wine while the sun sets. Two of the lodges even come with a wood-fired hot tub that can be booked during your stay as an optional extra.
After a spot of stargazing, perhaps even from the hot tub, everyone can look forward to snuggling down under the all-seasons duvets for a peaceful night's sleep. Choose from the king-size bed in the master room, twin beds in the second bedroom or the double cabin bed in the living area (you might need to draw straws for this one!). Each lodge also has its own en-suite bathroom, complete with a roll-top bath and shower attachment, with hot water on demand. A separate toilet room is found at the side of each lodge, next to the bathroom.
As well as enjoying exquisite accommodation and glorious surroundings, you can also be sure that your stay will have minimal impact on the environment. All energy for light and heat comes from green sources, from the wind-up and solar lanterns to the locally-sourced, sustainable fuel for the wood burner. Extensive onsite recycling facilities, plus the provision of environmentally-friendly washing and cleaning products, mean you can enjoy your stay and know you've done your bit for the environment at the same time!
While at A Little Bit of Rough, spend your days exploring Spindleberry Woods, building dens, and spotting wildlife, ranging from rabbits, and pheasants below to buzzards and red kites above. As the evening draws in, keep your eyes peeled for badgers, bats, barn owls, foxes and - if you're really lucky - the occasional fallow deer.
Being in the central county of Rutland, A Little Bit of Rough is an ideal location for visitors from all around the country. Although the exact location is kept a secret until you book, the nearby towns of Uppingham and Oakham are perfect for exploring boutiques, galleries and restaurants. A little further on are Stamford and Melton Mowbray, famed for its pork pie and one of the homes of Stilton cheese - great for foodies!
So, whether you spend your stay exploring the surrounding area or simply listening to nature's soundtrack from the comfort of your deck, one thing's for sure: you may have come for A Little Bit of Rough, but you'll be treated to a little bit of heaven.
