January’s “new year, new you” mantra can be hard to resist, which started us thinking about which of our fabulous properties might be undergoing a 2025-inspired transformation.
So, we asked – and the responses we received weren’t just fascinating, but inspiring!
That’s why we’re shining the spotlight on Host Unusual retreats that have (or will soon have) brand-new features or upgrades for their lucky 2025 guests. These range from major refurbishments and brand-new handcrafted units, to shiny facilities, lazy lounging areas, and accessibility upgrades.

Notable upgrades for 2025 include…
The Island Cornwall
What’s new? MAJOR refurbishments!
After 16 months of hard toil, we’re finally ready to welcome new guests – and the results are completely worth the wait!
While not much has changed outside, inside is transformed, with a gorgeous new open-plan kitchen/diner, underfloor heating and toasty insulation for extra cosiness. Upstairs are two lovely new bedrooms, created by our talented architects and builders from the attic space – and the second bedroom boasts a twin shower with a skylight.
Our previous guests will recognise the idyllic bay window, with rocking chairs to watch the seals, surf (and surfers), only now we’ve added some amazing bespoke art. The noren curtain – concealing a mystery! – has been replaced and improved, too. 2026 bookings open soon!
Hank’s Ranch
What’s new? Handcrafted spaces, bath house and dog wash
2025 is an exciting year for Hank’s Ranch! We’re proud to have completed the Church cabin – skilfully crafted by Hank himself – and soon the finishing touches on the bell tower will be complete, allowing the bell to ring out across the ranch.
Our biggest project this year is the Saloon, a lively Wild-West-themed communal space designed to transport you back to the good ol’ days of cowboys, card games, and old-time melodies on the pianola. We’ll also be crafting a Frontier-style Bath House with a wood-fired hot tub, and a bespoke dog wash – with fluffy towels and dog-friendly shampoo provided!
Rowden Mill Station
What’s new? Improved facilities and brand-new accommodation for two
Our Green Platform – where the Saloon Coach resides – is now home to a purpose-built al fresco kitchen, with a barbecue, picnic benches and sunshades. The former cattle dock has become a picnic space, with re-laid cobbles, brand-new gates, and benches inside and out.
Later in 2025 we will be adding to our accommodation with our beloved 1947 GWR Brake Van – which are commonly referred to as TOADs. We’ll be respectfully converting our iconic TOAD to sleep two guests, cosily nestled alongside Platform Two and adjacent to our new kitchen and picnic facilities. We plan to take booking requests by June – check our website for progress reports!
Ekopod
What’s new? Wild Spa
Ready from April 2025, our Wild Spa Island is available for exclusive bookings, nestled in the heart of our woodland and surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature.
A haven for rest, rejuvenation and reconnection with the Great Outdoors, the spa is a secluded retreat designed for complete relaxation, with a sauna (which opens on Valentine’s Day) perched above our moorland stream and a cold drench shower. Why not finish with a relaxing tea, while forest bathing in your luxury cocoon?

What’s new? Wild Spa
From June 2025, we will introduce our wild spa… a tranquil, adults-only space with a scenic sauna, cold plunge pool, and wildlife pond. It’s a place to feel deeply restored by the natural environment, with breathtaking views of the Pembrokeshire National Park.
