The Times has predicted “tripsnacking” to be “one of the hottest holiday pursuits of 2027”… but what is it, exactly?
Indulging in a tripsnack means taking a one-night minibreak to somewhere fascinating and walkable – usually a city – and cramming in as much goodness as you can in 24 hours!
Tripsnacking is already popular with time-poor, cash-strapped millennials and Gen Z-ers who cherish both their savings and their annual leave allocation. It’s a fabulous trend for spontaneous types, too, as many places offer one-night stays during low-season lulls.
But if there’s a downside to taking a tripsnack it’s the environmental cost, especially if you take a succession of (very) short-haul trips in a single year. So, we’re adding to the tripsnacking roster with unusual places to stay that are close to, or right in the heart of, a UK or European city.
For example: how about bedding down on a floating ‘boatel’ in the heart of Edinburgh, after a lively day of sightseeing? Or hopping on the Eurostar to a vibrant Amsterdam social hub, where every room is a work of art and the nearest restaurant is just outside the door?
These incredible retreats are all easily accessible by public transport – or car, if you must! Better still, each offer one-night stays, so you can scratch that tripsnackers’ itch and indulge as many times as you like.
