Considering asking ChatGPT for holiday ideas? Do so at your peril. According to a recent survey, 37% of people who use AI for travel tips find them lacking in detail, and that they’re often directed to the same old places, time and again.
More worryingly, 33% said their AI-generated recommendations included false information – including perilous mountain hikes in places that don’t exist, and even suggesting that there’s an Eiffel Tower in Beijing!
It’s important to double-check AI travel recommendations for accuracy, especially if you think they look too ‘perfect’. But (for us, at least) the best and most pleasurable option is doing your own research. No bot can understand your personal holiday likes and dislikes better than you, and nothing beats the thrill of uncovering a true hidden gem, all by yourself.
To help you on your way, we’ve compiled a list of jaw-droppingly unusual places to stay, dotted all over the world and away from well-trodden holiday tracks. Rest assured: we don’t use AI to create our listings (or anything else on our website, for that matter!), and we won’t publish a listing without the lovely property-owner approving it for accuracy first.
Rather surprise yourself? Our Wildcard! collection is a weird and wonderful group of ‘misfits’ that are each devilishly difficult to categorise – not just for us, but for ChatGPT and the like.
Come and see!
