The Grade II-listed Lincolnshire pub dates all the way back to 1759, secluded on the banks of the River Ancholme with friendly village shops in easy walking distance. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time as you arrive, yet there are plenty of modern conveniences to make your break both relaxing and memorable.

Converted into a holiday retreat by a skilled architect, you can take your pick of expertly-designed, stylishly-decorated spaces to unwind in. The original bar is still intact, for those who like to prop it up and put the world to rights, while the leather-seated, wood-panelled lounge has the swish feel of a private members’ club. There’s a piano bar, too, for those who like to entertain!

Prefer unleashing your competitive spirits? There’s a pool table and dart board on hand, along with an arcade game station, board game library… and even giant wall Scrabble for wordy types, with plenty of snug book-nooks thrown in. Meanwhile, the large dining and function area is also home to a dance floor, ideal for throwing shapes with your mates, long into the night.

Choose your ideal sleeping space from 17 boutique-style bedrooms, furnished with kingsize and single hotel-quality Hypnos beds. There’s a large double bed in the first-floor cottage snug, too (which also boasts its own kitchen space for those who prefer a little extra privacy), while four rooms have the additional option of a full-height, single-size trundle bed.

And of course, you couldn’t be expected to share just the one bathroom between you all. Nine en-suites, three spacious bathrooms, and a separate WC – not to mention Pub Ladies’ and Gents’ toilets! – will put paid to awkward cross-legged queues.

Cook up a storm in the gleaming kitchen, furnished with sleek NEFF appliances, and dine inside or out on your very own landscaped riverside beer garden, complete with its own mooring. It’s an ideal spot for breakfast, as you cradle that first coffee of the day against a serene backdrop of nature.
