The proud winner of Visit England’s Small Hotel of the Year 2026, The Tempus (Latin for “time”) is set within the 550-acre Charlton Hall Estate in Northumberland, which dates all the way back to the 18th century.

The Tempus itself is home to delights that include a restaurant, a vibrant cocktail bar, and a laid-back weekend dining tipi, along with design-led boutique accommodation to suit every type of guest.

Those looking for an unusual place to stay can choose from a soothing selection of yurts, lakeside cabins and glamping pods (each retreat sleeping up to two guests) for a break infused with luxury worthy of an exquisite country retreat.

Perfect for romantic couples, the Yurts are sublimely positioned in a dedicated area of the estate. Here you can savour beautiful natural views and ample outdoor space, with the on-site restaurant and bar mere moments away. Your chosen yurt will be elegantly furnished with cosy bedding and soft lighting, while generous shared facilities are within a short stroll.

More of a water baby? Choose a Lakeside Cabin. Not only will you wake up to shimmering lake views, but you’ll also have a scenic outdoor jacuzzi spa bath to relax in – perfect when paired with a chilled sundowner!

Additional cabin facilities include a downy kingsize bed, an en-suite bathroom, and a comfy seating area for chatting over coffee or curling up with a good book. Four of the eight cabins also welcome dogs, so your best four-legged friend needn’t miss out on that well-deserved break, too.

The Glamping Pods, meanwhile, are secluded a short drive away from The Tempus, in the Doxford Barns area of the estate, so particularly ideal for wedding guests at the award-winning barn venue – though there doesn’t need to be a wedding on for you to enjoy a relaxing break here.
