The Perch @ Hidden Valley Hideaway

A sumptuous, off-grid A-frame cabin-for-two, elevated on a scenic hillside in mid-Wales with a hot tub for magical evenings under the stars.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2-3 nights

The Perch at Hidden Valley Hideaway is a dreamlike escape for two world-weary souls: a lovingly-crafted A-frame cabin with glorious green views in every direction.

Owners Stacy and Bob have been diligently restoring their seven-and-a-half-acre mid-Wales smallholding since 2009. They created The Perch for the ultimate digital detox, elevated on a hillside in the most idyllic, wildlife-steeped rural surroundings imaginable.

You’ll see what they mean from the moment you step out onto the cabin’s generous deck, greeted by spectacular big-sky scenes of ancient woodland, peaceful grazing sheep, and lush fields that seem to stretch out forever.

Inside awaits a cosy, light-flooded haven that’s a joy to spend time in, with sleek wooden panelling and floor-to-ceiling bifold doors. Simply light the log burner to warm late-night conversations over a bottle of wine (or the delectable Welsh mountain cider provided in your welcome hamper!). A Bluetooth speaker and an acoustic guitar will set the perfect musical mood, with board games, cards and books to keep you entertained.

Facilities-wise, there’s a compact yet well-equipped kitchen for easy mealtimes, and a generous bathroom with an electric shower and a ‘proper’ flushing toilet. Fluffy bathrobes and toiletries are gainfully on hand, too.

Head back outside to watch the sun sinking gently over the hills beyond, perhaps firing up the barbecue for a sizzling supper to go with those views. Your private hot tub, thoughtfully heated and prepared for your arrival, will help you greet the stars in style later on.

When it’s finally time for sleep, take the steep alternating tread ladder staircase (note: this may render The Perch unsuitable for guests with restricted or limited mobility) up to your mezzanine kingsize bed. Here, delights like fresh linen and Velux stargazing windows promise to lull you into sound nights of slumber.

You’ll feel tempted not to do anything but luxuriate in the abundant peace and beauty of your hidden valley retreat. Yet if you feel like exploring, the market town of Llanidloes is close by, for shopping, dining, and a mobile signal should you need it.

The Elan Valley is a short drive away, too, or watch red kites feeding at Bwlch Nant yr Arian – an incredible sight – before another blissful evening spent together at The Perch.

Things to note

The cabin sleeps two adults only, with the bed accessed by a steep alternating tread ladder staircase that may be unsuitable for guests with restricted or limited mobility. Regrettably, pets are not permitted due to the abundant local wildlife and grazing sheep. Please note that there is no Wi-Fi or mobile signal at the cabin – these can both be accessed in Llanidloes, 3.5 miles away. A torch is recommended, to help you navigate the dimly-lit paths after dark (note that the car park is five minutes away on foot, over rough terrain). Wood for the fire pit is purchased separately.

What the guests of The Perch @ Hidden Valley Hideaway say

“Absolutely fantastic hidden little gem of a place from start to finish of our stay was amazing. The A-frame cabin was beautiful – super clean and so comfortable and the attention to detail is second to none. The decking with the hot tub was my personal favourite just to sit in there and look at those majestic views and listen to the wildlife was the highlight of my stay. We met the owner Stacy who is such a lovely lady who gave us some good tips on where to go and what to do. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Big thank you to Stacy and bob and also congratulations on creating such an amazing accommodation and atmosphere, I fell in love with the place.”

“We had a wonderful stay at Hidden Valley Hideaway (The Perch). It was such a unique experience — completely off-grid, surrounded by nature, and incredibly peaceful. It was the perfect place to switch off from everyday life and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Welsh countryside. The accommodation was thoughtfully put together and had everything we needed while still keeping that authentic off-grid feel. Waking up to birdsong, spending time outdoors, and being immersed in nature made it a truly relaxing escape. If you’re looking for somewhere different to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a slower pace of life, I couldn’t recommend Hidden Valley Hideaway more highly. We left feeling refreshed and would happily return. Thank you!”
