The Hunting Tower
- Sleeps: 4
- Bedrooms: 2
- Bathroom: 1
- Minimum stay: 3 nights
Designed by the noted Elizabethan architect Robert Smythson, the Hunting Tower dates all the way back to the 16th century. The grand retreat occupies pride of place on an escarpment that soars 400 feet above Chatsworth House, for panoramic park views.
In centuries past, the tower has served as a hunting observatory, as well as a summerhouse, a banqueting suite, and an elegant home for staff working at Chatsworth Estate. Now, up to four guests are welcome to stay, in a beautiful piece of history that also acts as an ideal base for exploring the Peak District National Park.
One elegant double and one cosy twin bedroom makes the Hunting Tower perfect for a small family, with well-behaved dogs also welcome to stay for a small additional fee. Both bedrooms boast en-suite bathroom facilities, and there’s a well-equipped kitchen to make easy work of mealtimes (note that floors are connected by a steep spiral staircase, which may be unsuitable for younger children).
With everything you need so gainfully provided, you’re free to take advantage of the tower’s incredible doorstep access to Stand Wood and the surrounding Chatsworth Estate, with the Peak District National Park and the delights of Bakewell just a short drive away.
