Cambridge Lodge Water Tank

An historic water tank, transformed into unique, luxurious and sociable accommodation in the heart of the picturesque Peak District.
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Bedrooms: 3
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Minimum stay: 1 week

You may be surprised that a former water tank originally built in 1909 would be featured in The Times’ ‘Fifty Best Cottages in Britain 2016′ – but then again, the stunning Cambridge Lodge isn’t exactly your average water tank!

Beautifully situated in the conservation village of Wensley, in the heart of the fresh air-filled, wildlife-strewn Peak District, Cambridge Lodge provides welcoming and luxury accommodation for up to six people in three bedrooms, with truly magnificent rural views naturally built right in.

Originally covered by an earth mound and only accessed through manholes in the roof, the building has been amazingly transformed into a comfortably charming holiday cottage, featuring a ground and lower ground floor.

You’ll also discover a country cottage garden on the roof top that provides breathtaking 360-degree country views, leading out to Chatsworth House and Riber Castle… so there will be something interesting and different to feast your eyes upon, whichever way you look! You’ll be able to keep a close eye on the friendly local wildlife, too.

Enter the cottage via the ground floor level, and feel immediately at home, with plenty of decorative touches that will remind you of the building’s historic heritage. Here you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen and a tile-floored dining room, with windows that allow you to make the most of those amazing natural views…even on colder days, as you enjoy plenty of hearty meals and lively conversation. There’s also a handy utility room, equipped with a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Head along to the cosy twin bedroom, and an indulgent bathroom with shower over, before taking the stairs to the lower ground floor with its spaciously sociable living area. With laminate floor, drinks fridge, 60″ Smart TV and plenty of space to relax, all you’ll need to do is choose your favourite snuggle-spot!

For those who appreciate a little extra peace and quiet, the low-ceilinged reading room, complete with cosy armchairs, is the perfect place to get lost within the pages of the latest bestseller.

Discover two more bedrooms on this floor, too, both equipped with double beds. One features an ensuite shower room, while the other leads directly to a ‘secret’ sitting room, complete with traditional board games and a TV!
