Off Grid Travel design and create ‘healthy’ retreats in remote natural settings, for instantly relaxing, zero-carbon holidays with plenty of added luxury.
As such, you’ll find The HideAway beautifully – and privately – secluded on the ancient Cambo Estate in the East Neuk of Fife, surrounded by pure nature and with glorious views to the coast. A car-free site, the retreat is a 100-metre walk from the guest parking area, with wagons provided for your luggage.
The imaginative, dog-friendly retreat is expertly crafted from sustainable Scottish timber by the Off Grid Travel team themselves, in a romantic couple’s dream. Gently elevated on a hillside, you’ll enjoy total seclusion… though you may catch sight of the occasional grazing deer or gambolling hare!
Inside, cutting-edge design technologies include all the facilities and conveniences you could wish for, at no cost to the planet. Lighting, power – even a flushing toilet – are all provided, as are cosy eco-bedding, towels, eco-toiletries, and organic tea and coffee to charge lazy mornings soundtracked by birdsong.
Your kingsize bedroom boasts windows that occupy two entire walls (with pure woollen blinds that ensure you don’t wake before you want to), so each morning, you’ll be greeted by sublime ocean views over lush fields. After a romantic supper whipped up in the kitchen or on the gas barbecue, simply light the firepit to unwind under a shimmering blanket of stars.
With so much calm and luxury to savour here, you may not want to move so much as a muscle during your stay. Yet if you choose to explore, there’s plenty to see, do, and experience in every direction.
The Cambo Estate is home to winding walking and cycling trails that lead to myriad wonders, including the estate’s magical walled gardens, shop, café, and visitor centre. Follow the signs to Kingsbarns Beach and join the Fife Coastal Path for a longer walk, or stay on the beach and arrange a luxury Sea and Sauna Experience – lunch and hot drinks included.

More information
Don’t feel like straying too far? You could opt for a 10-minute stroll through private woodland paths to Kingsbarns Distillery, where the gin is premium and plentiful, and the ‘Dream to Dram’ tour is a must for whisky enthusiasts!
And of course, since you’re in Fife there’s plenty of opportunity for golf. You can walk to the first tee of Kingsbarns Golf Links – part of the estate – directly from your retreat, with many more courses to choose from in the wider local area.
But if you really don’t want go anywhere at all, there’s always the option of ordering fresh local produce from Ardross Farm Shop (just a few miles away), then simply sitting back and luxuriating in The HideAway’s abundant natural charms.
Things to note
Please advise on booking if you plan to bring your dog/s, so the owners can prepare for your arrival. The retreat is fully solar-powered, so please think about leaving electronic devices and hairdryers at home (NB – there are no issues with charging of tablets, laptops and phones).. There is limited Wi-Fi in the HideAway (Wi-Fi is available in the estate’s café, next to the guest parking area, which is a 100m walk away). Please bring wellies or suitable footwear for navigating the footpaths, which can get muddy!

What the guests of The HideAway by Off Grid Travel say
“I can’t really put into words how wonderful the HideAway is. Surrounded by nature, with the most amazing view, it’s the perfect off-grid escape for a couple or friends (and dog friendly!). We woke up every morning to deer roaming free in the fields, incredible sunrises and that priceless quiet and sense of peace that we all crave these days. It is clear that a lot of thought has gone into making the HideAway as homey as possible; high quality furniture, blankets and dinnerware gives you that luxurious sense of home. The HideAway is also very well insulated, running totally on solar power, it has a little wood burner that heats up the place in no time.
Oh and did I mention the sky at night? With no light pollution you can go to sleep watching the starry sky, just like a dream. There’s also plenty to do in the area, the distillery, beach and Cambo Gardens are all within walking distance. I’d highly recommend booking a sauna session (we paid £13 each for 55min) which can be ended with an amazing burger from the harbour burger van right next to the sauna. Amazing experience overall, would 100% come back!”
