Surrounded by enchanting woodland made up of chestnut and rowan trees that lie just north of the Brecon Beacons, and with the book-lovers’ town of Hay-on-Wye just half a mile away, there’s lots to love about a stay at The Chestnut Retreat.

Soothingly off-grid and sleeping up to four guests, you can even bring your well-behaved dogs with you… so no-one has to miss out on any fresh-air-filled fun!

Boasting a charming wooden exterior, the peaceful retreat is packed with modern features that include a gas cooker and air fryer, along with a nostalgic whistling kettle and a roaring wood-burning fire to warm your evenings (and your hearts.) Meanwhile, natural pine furnishings, soft beanbags, and joyous splashes of colour will help you feel cosily at home.

The two bedrooms (one zip-and-link double and one twin) both face geometric windows, so you can enjoy waking to soothing views of the gently rustling trees.

Spend your day immersed in activity of just about every description – Wales is a natural playground of adventure, after all – or simply take a meandering walk through the local area, saying a cheery hello to the abundant wildlife as you go.
