High Barn Heritage is dedicated to restoring unloved railway carriages, helping to breathe new life into them.

You’ll find their first project, The Carriage, nestled on the tranquil outskirts of Greenstead Green, a sleepy North Essex village close to the historic market town of Halstead.

Imaginatively created from a former Great Eastern Railways carriage that harks back to the 1880s, and a 20th century freight box, the quirky holiday home is set on rails and sleepers and furnished in vintage style, so you’ll feel like you’re relaxing in a first-class train compartment from elegant times past!

Sleeping up to four guests, there’s a stylish double bedroom with ample storage space, and a comfy double sofa bed in the lounge, which is also home to a wall-mounted TV and DVD player for cosy evenings in.

Whip up buffet car snacks and three-course meals alike in the well-equipped kitchen, which features an electric hob and a microwave combination oven, along with that all-important holiday essential: a dishwasher!

Enjoy the fruits of your culinary labours at the polished wooden dining table, before heading through the patio doors on finer evenings to enjoy laughter-fuelled conversation over a post-dinner tipple. There’s a charcoal barbecue, too, in case you prefer a sizzling al fresco supper.

In fact, you’ll soon discover a wealth of outdoor space to enjoy, with decked areas on either side of the carriage that means you can savour glorious sunrises and jaw-dropping sunsets alike… as well as inquisitive visits from the neighbouring pheasants, deer, and diverse bird life.
