A stay at The Book Nook is to embark on a magical journey, back to carefree childhood days filled with joyful stories and endless wonder.

You’ll find the artisan log cabin deliciously tucked away on Lurcombe Farm, a Dartmoor country retreat and flower farm that spans 45 blissful rural acres. Here await lush, rolling hillsides and winding trails, along with a tennis court and idyllic orchards to help while away some of that precious holiday downtime. Oh – and not to mention the visiting deer, abundant birdlife, and resident Devon cattle and chickens.  Having just achieved County Wildlife Status from Action for Climate Teignbridge and The Devon Wildlife Trust, this beautiful space is also now recognised for its importance to local biodiversity and the habitats it supports — from native plants and pollinators to birds and small mammals that rely on it.

Owners Sarah and Nick created the cabin themselves, using as much upcycled and renovated materials as possible. Sarah is an artist and interior designer, and as such each room boasts imaginative décor and accessories, inspired by a different book or author, to make you feel as though you’ve stepped right into the pages!

Unwind in the ‘Beatrix’ living room, with its cosy armchairs, soft-glowing log-burner, and creative homages to well-loved literary characters. Here you can get lost in conversation – or a good book from the well-stocked library wall – while enjoying peaceful hillside views from the Secret Garden window.

The charming, country-style ‘Brambly Willows’ kitchen/diner is perfect for feasts (you’ll even be supplied with fresh farm eggs for a delicious breakfast), while the colourful Enid Blyton-inspired shower room is papered with pages from her classic children’s books, for a jolly good freshen-up!

If the weather is fine, the covered al fresco deck ‘nook’ is an ideal spot from which to spend a lazy afternoon over a drink or two. You’ll also have a beautiful garden to relax in, adorned with a dining area and a firepit to help you welcome the stars in style – with no light pollution, they’re sure to put on a dazzling display.

Yet if you’re in the mood to explore, all you have to do is head through the enchanting Narnian wardrobe, out into the hillside! Pack a picnic and ramble through Dartmoor at your leisure, go horse riding, or jump in the car to enjoy South Devon’s many beautiful beaches. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are plenty of places to eat close by, too.
