Steeped in cosy luxury and beautiful handmade touches, The Bluebird Penthouse is quite unlike any other country retreat.

Surrounded by Devonshire countryside, the 1950s Bluebird caravan is set on a friendly farm, in the elevated rural village of High Bickington.

Not only are stunning panoramic views of the Taw Valley guaranteed, but you’ll have a choice of comfy spots to view them from… including the caravan’s many windows and the unique Land Rover hot tub!

Self-contained and furnished in authentic retro style, you’ll feel as though you’ve escaped all the hectic demands of modern everyday life as you arrive with your loved one in tow.

Owner Ralph is a seriously creative type who enjoys crafting fun and imaginative escapes, and you’re sure to feel he’s succeeded, as you put the whistling kettle on the hob and explore your vintage surroundings.

Furnished with all the facilities you’ll need, there’s a well-equipped kitchenette to help you whip up romantic country feasts, and a bathroom for evening soaks and morning freshen-ups (so there’ll be no dashing out to a shower block, or queuing for a communal loo!)

A perfect year-round retreat, you’ll be kept perfectly toasty with heat from the large biomass boiler, fuelled with plenty of sustainably grown wood from the farm. Oh, and your ridiculously downy double bed is surrounded by windows… one of which is beautifully positioned for you to watch the sunrise without having to move a muscle.

More information

What else? Well, make sure you don’t miss the caravan’s wine cellar, which you’ll find cleverly hidden in the floor tiles!

On sunny days, why not take a bottle of wine out to that furnished covered decking area, where you’ll find a gas barbecue and gas pizza oven both handily underneath the cover and a chimenea to extend your al fresco evening? It’s also the perfect spot for morning coffee… during which you could be treated to a curious visit from a few of the farm’s friendly cows!

Don’t forget to take a dip in the hot tub, too… a jaw-dropping, Insta-worthy conversion of one of the farm’s vintage Land Rovers. Sit in the driver’s seat and relax amongst the gently heated bubbles, or if you don’t want to get your feet wet, you could opt for enjoying the views (or a good book!) on the bench seats at the back.

Things to do in the local area? You’ll discover plenty, from National Trust properties and museums, to the delights of Exmoor Zoo.  Ralph is always happy to furnish you with details of the best local places to eat and drink, too.

But we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that once you’ve immersed yourselves in the tranquil serenity of this amazing retro retreat, you won’t want to go anywhere.
