Romantically secluded just 30 metres from the sea, on a reef that faces a rugged mountain, Seaside Villa Capo Zafferano is a private, paradise-like oasis on the western tip of Sicily.
Surrounded by blue skies, the crystal sea (to which you’ll have ridiculously easy access), and diverse, heady Mediterranean plant life, you’ll feel far away from life’s everyday stresses and strains as you relax and unwind amongst surroundings that feel like a beautiful dream.
Originally designed by the Italian architect Armando Barraja as a summertime retreat for his own family, the retreat has the distinct feeling of being on board a luxurious ship, with porthole windows and balustrade-adorned platforms that face the shimmering sea.
There’s a private bathing cove if you’re in the mood for a refreshing dip, sublime ‘hidden’ terraces to relax on with a good book and glass of local wine, and a glorious reef-garden characterised by whispering palms and olive trees, cacti, and vibrant geraniums.
And although the villa is exquisitely furnished – Armando Barraja is also an acclaimed importer of rare designer furniture – you’ll feel as though you’re stepping into a much-loved family home as you enter the magnificent upper-central living area.
Here you’ll find a sociable dining area and a fireplace to gather round on chillier evenings, with gleaming glass walls and direct access to the enormous sea-and-mountain facing terrace.
You’ll find two comfortable master bedrooms on this upper level – together with a spacious bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen. From the terrace, simply take the innovative bridge and outer staircases down to the two lower floors, one boasting a twin bedroom, and the other a master bedroom, and a bathroom. (Hint: choose the lower floor bedroom to access the best terrace from which to enjoy the sun… an ideal spot for morning coffee!)

What the guests of Seaside Villa Capo Zafferano say
“We had such a wonderful stay in Seaside Villa Capo Zafferano… we really didn’t want to leave! Giacomo was the perfect host; waiting patiently when we arrived late to give us a very personal tour of the house that was designed by his father -this didn’t feel like a transactional villa rental, but someone sharing their family home with you. We personally loved the vibe of the house – full of colourful Italian design furniture that we appreciated, but with the feeling of a loved family home, not a cold house where you are scared to touch anything. The villa is truly one of a kind – built into the side of the cliff with so many inside and outside areas to explore and enjoy the beautiful views from. Sitting on the terrace with a morning coffee and watching the boats sail by was pure bliss. The private cove is the perfect spot for a quiet morning dip in the ocean, the local fishing villages are a great spot to grab a granita and Palermo is only 15 minutes by train from the closest station… what more could you want!?! We couldn’t have asked for anything more, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.”
