An award-winning lighthouse island set within a remote Swedish archipelago, with boutique rooms and an exclusive outdoor bed for unforgettable summer stays

Once home to Swedish lighthouse families of the late 1800s, Pater Noster, recently featured on TV’s “The World’s Most Secret Hotels” occupies a remote island in Bohuslän’s outermost archipelago.

In 2020, the former lighthouse-keeper’s residence was transformed into an award-winning boutique hotel, inspired by the lighthouse architecture, the island’s history and the power of the sea, for a stay that doubles as an immersive experience.

You’ll be transported by boat to the island, with a freeing sense of leaving all those everyday cares behind on the shore. Sleeping a total of 22 guests (whole-island hire is available for groups of up to 18), each of the nine rooms is individually styled by the award-winning design agency Stylt, with custom-made wallpaper, vintage furniture, and well-chosen local art.

What about catering? The laid-back summer café boasts an innovative menu with ingredients direct from the sea (the head chef is also a trained marine biologist and harvests his own seaweed). Meanwhile, the wine cellar features sommelier-curated beverages that includes unique, specially-imported Champagne.

To upgrade your stay even further, why not book the exclusive outdoor bed (subject to weather conditions), securely positioned on the edge of a cliff and under a sky that sparkles with stars? Cocooned in comfort and surrounded by pure island nature, it’s an experience you’re unlikely to ever forget.
