You’ll feel like the lord and lady of the manor just as soon as you arrive at Palmers Folly, a sumptuous retreat for two set on the famed Holkham Estate.
Surrounded by grazing deer, rolling greenery and soothing woodland, it’s no surprise that the 25,000-acre estate is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty…and you may just feel that the interiors at Palmers Folly merit the same description!
A former gatehouse, the ground-floor studio space is generously open-plan and immediately inviting, with a crackling wood-burner to warm your evenings, and a welcome pack bursting with goodies to tempt your palates. Meanwhile, the décor is tasteful, and the furnishings beautifully stylish – a more ideal setting for a relaxing country break is hard to imagine (better still, you can even bring the dog along, too).
You’ll find the kitchen equipped with those holiday essentials, including a toaster, kettle, fridge, and of course, crockery and cutlery (though you might feel that the nearby Victoria Inn, Courtyard Café, or Wells Beach Café are better choices for dining, especially when you’ll be receiving a holiday discount for all three!)
When it’s time to turn in, simply wander along to your downy, beautifully dressed kingsize bed – complete with an elegant ensuite shower room.
In between times, the lawned garden area is perfect for sitting with your loved one and chatting about life and love, whether that’s over morning coffee or evening bubbles. Though if you’re not in the mood for chatting, the daily newspaper or a ‘must read’ book can be just as good company!
If you’re in the mood to roam, you could begin by wandering through those amazing Holkham Estate grounds. Home to Holkham Hall, you may feel you’ve seen some of the elegant scenery before (and if you’ve watched The Duchess, a 2008 film starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, you have!) There are plenty of woodland trails to explore, and bike hire is available if you prefer to whizz along on wheels.
