La Fustaia (“the high forest” in English) is a dreamlike estate in the hills of Sarzana, close to the UNESCO World Heritage Cinque Terre in Liguria, Italy.
Surrounded by nothing but towering trees and thriving nature, the Lamotte family’s former hunting lodge has been beautifully transformed into a wonder-filled retreat, in which every space tells a story.
Separate from the main house, Il Capanno is a magical glamping-style hut with handcrafted furnishings and a serene sense of calm. Deeply immersed in nature, you’ll also have an entire holm-oak forest at your disposal! After exploring the enchanting surroundings, relax in your al fresco bathtub under a blanket of stars, before drifting into a silent night of slumber.
For a morning treat, you can arrange for a gourmet breakfast basket to be delivered straight to you, via a small cable car that winds its way through the trees.
La Voliera is a frescoed, nest-like room that occupies the oldest part of the main house; the place where Count Lamotte would release his birds. Wood panelling and small Tuscan-style windows evoke warmth and charm, while a well-placed skylight showcases the night sky in all its star-sprinkled glory.
More highlights include an indulgent bathroom with a shower built into a well, and a sun-drenched patio that leads to the estate’s outdoor infinity pool and terraced garden area.
Costanza, meanwhile, is a grand, lime-walled suite that boasts a double bedroom with its own zinc bathtub and mesmeric slate fireplace. There’s also an adjoining single room, which features a late-19th century French bed.
