A former weapons range that dates back to 1890, RAF Wainfleet was used by none other than the Dambusters throughout World War Two, before its closure in 2010.
Beautifully situated within a registered nature reserve in Friskney, the base now enjoys a new life as a history-steeped holiday retreat, with picture-perfect Lincolnshire views and a wildlife park on the doorstep.
One of the newest – and most exciting – accommodation options is Jetstream, an ex-45 Squadron aircraft, expertly transformed into a sleek, stylish glamping pod for couples and small families.
On board awaits a downy kingsize bed, and a smaller double bed cleverly nestled in the tail. Sleeping up to four adults, there’s also a small pull-out single bed, suitable for a child under 10.
You’ll have toasty underfloor heating (though you may want to pack a few extra blankets for colder evenings), and two TVs as in-flight entertainment. One can be viewed right from the kingsize bed… perfect for lazy Sunday lie-ins!
There’s also a communal games room on site, gainfully equipped with a dart board, table tennis, and a pool table, to help you unleash your competitive spirits and challenge new friends.
What about facilities? Just 20 metres away is your very own kitchen, loo, and shower – so there’ll be no need to worry about queuing to cook or freshen up.
