A mesmerising tapestry of landscapes and wildlife, the Pentland Hills Regional Park is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that encapsulates the unique natural magic of Scotland.

It’s here that you’ll discover Eastside Farm, a 3,000-acre working sheep farm that’s just a short drive from Edinburgh, yet with a blissful feeling of being far, far away from the rest of the world.

Cast your eyes over iconic hillscapes that include The Kips and The South Black Hill, while a stroll around the farm’s pastures means you’ll get up close and personal with all manner of loveliness, from vibrant purple heather-clad hills and soaring ravens, to wild hares darting through the undergrowth.

Accessed at the end of a winding farm track, Eastside Cartshed is a sumptuous barn conversion that blends ancient and modern features to effortless effect.

Sleeping two lucky guests, there’s a clean-lined Scandi feel to the cosy, pared-down interiors, as daylight floods cheerfully inside through huge windows. Then you’ll note how cleverly the double-height, open-plan space has been divided into stylishly-furnished sections, for living, sleeping, and dining.

The living room features a wood-burning stove and a window seat with plenty of sheepskins, so you’ll feel perfectly toasty as you gaze out over the hills, steaming mug of hot chocolate in hand (or there’s a TV with complimentary Netflix!) Meanwhile, you’ll find the bespoke, hand-crafted kitchen at the top of a folded steel staircase.

As guests, you’ll be invited to arrange an exclusive, complimentary four-hour session in the Finnish-inspired steam sauna yurt in the woodland garden. Nestled into the glorious landscape and lovingly hand-crafted from larch and ash, the yurt is insulated with snuggly Scottish wool, with an evocative wood-smoke aroma that compels blissful relaxation. Take a post-sauna dip in the spring-water plunge pool, then wrap yourselves up in the soft Finnish robes provided.

What the guests of Eastside Cartshed say

“Loved my stay at the Cartshed in late spring – the lambs were jumping around the fields, the birds super busy and the hills displaying amazing light shows through snowy showers. The cottage is cosy and modern with the most comfortable bed, fitting effortlessly into with the hill farm context with wonderful views out into an emerging woodland garden and glimpses of the Pentland peaks beyond through the branches. Enjoyed my stay so much, I returned in the summer and was welcomed with the wildflowers of the hills and the last calls of the cuckoos.”

“Having driven a mile up a track into a hidden valley it feels as though you have escaped from the world.”
