Indulge your love of the natural life with a quirky stay in a beautifully converted 19th century rail carriage in Dungeness - an abundant Kent nature reserve just a stone's throw from the beach.

Dungeness, found on the Kent coastline, is one of the most unique and interesting places in Britain. Its flourishing and diverse plant, bird and wildlife has ensured the area’s status as a national nature reserve, a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation, with some rare species of plants and insects to be found nowhere else in the country.

So it goes to follow that Dungeness Railway Carriage, a wonderfully original conversion of an 1880s railway carriage nestled on the shingle expanse within a 468-acre nature reserve, represents a true holiday haven for lovers of the natural world!

Sleeping up to four people (plus the dog), you’ll find this homely carriage is warmly welcoming, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need to enjoy a perfectly peaceful break, all surrounded by the very best that nature has to offer.

Curved beamed ceilings, wooden flooring and clean-lined, contemporary décor give an immediate first-class impression, complete with stunning views to enjoy from almost every room. The comfy sitting room features a warming woodburner, perfect for huddling round by evening, as you look out to the nearby beach and the sparkling sea beyond – or catch up on your favourite TV shows, if you prefer.

You’ll find plenty of quirky touches around the carriage, including the original water pump, retained as a character feature. A handy lobby area is ideal for leaving coats, buckets and spades, while the charming, light-flooded kitchen and dining area contains everything you need to prepare and enjoy plenty of hearty meals with a view!

The master bedroom features a cosy double bed, along with fresh white walls and large, friendly windows. A second bedroom can be made up as a single or another double, and here you’ll find an extra treat – a telescope, meaning you won’t have to miss a single second of stargazing in the clear, pollution-free night sky.  A spacious family bathroom with bath and shower over is the perfect place to freshen up after a long day exploring the local area.

Of course, there’s plenty of the great outdoors to enjoy during your stay, and you’ll find you won’t even need to leave your hideaway to indulge in the spectacular vista the area has to offer. Decked areas line both sides of the carriage, where you can sit at the original railway bench and driftwood table, armed with a glass of something sparkling, as you breathe in fresh air and look out over Dungeness beach… what a way to begin your break!
