Considered to be one of the toughest and most adverse environments in Europe, the Gorafe Desert, in the province of Granada, Andalusia, is also one of its most beautiful.
Characterised by rich red sandstone, yawning ravines, and intricate rock formations, it’s no wonder the desert is a hugely popular filming location on its own. So when you add a beautifully crafted glass house to the mix, it’s bound to make serious waves!
Elevated in the heart of the Gorafe, Desert House, crafted from thermally insulated glass to withstand the toughest natural environments, has been used as a filming location for fashion brand campaigns, and has even appeared in an episode of the popular Netflix series, Black Mirror.
But this isn’t just a beautiful house, it’s also an efficient house that works in harmony with its desert surroundings. Solar panels provide power, while rainwater is expertly filtered to provide drinking water. Meanwhile, waste water from the bathroom is swiftly converted to liquid fertiliser, which nourishes the soil.
Inside await three gleaming glazed modules: one home to a downy double bed, one a spacious shower and access to the indulgent centre-bathroom, and one a sumptuous lounge with designer armchairs.
You’ll have enough kitchenware for two, and there’s a fridge to store those essential holiday supplies. Oh, and you’ll also have access to Wi-Fi… which of course is essential, when you’re in a house that’s as Instagrammable as this one!
As if all that wasn’t quite enough, a veranda runs along the entire perimeter of the house. This is a truly sensational spot to lounge on lazy summer’s evenings, taking in mesmerising 360-degree desert views, and later of the vast, star-studded sky.
