Family-owned for 400 years, a stay at Cossington Park Estate feels like stepping into the pages of a classic and much-loved story book.
Nestled on the edge of the Somerset levels are 22 enchanting acres of gardens and grounds that are ripe for all kinds of al fresco adventure, while two five-star, Grade II-listed retreats offer comfort and elegance for up to 18 adults, 8 children, and 6 dogs.
Filled with captivating artefacts and gentle odes to times gone by, this is a true paradise-like setting for art-lovers, history-buffs, and wildlife-enthusiasts alike. Family portraits and original furnishings add charm and character, while outside awaits unique art and sculpture-work… not to mention an exotic Chinese elm tree that was brought back by an ancestor 200 years ago and is the oldest in Britain.
All you’ve got to do now is choose which retreat you’ll stay in. Boasting six luxurious, individually-named double or twin bedrooms (sleeping up to 12 adults, plus 8 children in sofa-beds, folding beds, and cots), Cossington Park House is the largest and liveliest, with a seemingly endless wealth of delightfully-furnished sociable spaces.
At its heart is an incredibly well-stocked ‘Old Kitchen’ that’s so enticingly large and lovely, everyone can get involved with the fun feast-preparation, although if you’d rather sit back and let someone else do the cooking, that’s no problem. Friendly local caterers are on hand to help plan and prepare your ideal in-house menu… and they’ll even do the washing-up afterwards! The stunning Library Dining Room is perfect for celebrations and sit-down dinners with up to 30 guests.
Affectionately known as ‘Ethel’s Cottage’, after the former housekeeper who once lived there, Cossington Park Cottage is an accessible, light-filled Victorian home where history seamlessly blends with modern luxury. Relax in the sociable open-plan living space, or head out into the enclosed walled garden, with a level deck perfect for barbecues and al fresco dining.
The three stylish, individually-named bedrooms (one on the ground-floor) sleep up to 6 adults. Park Cottage is rated for accessibility, and one of its two bathrooms is a wheelchair-accessible wet room.

More information
Once you’ve claimed your favourite sleeping space, it’s time to kick back and enjoy life on your very own estate! Be warned, however: with so much to see, do, and discover, it could be difficult to choose what you’ll indulge in first.
You could start by escaping into one of the 5,000 historic books you’ll find adorning the shelves, or curling up with a movie on one of the Sky-enabled TVs. Feeling competitive? Challenge your loved ones to pool, darts, or table tennis in the games room. There’s a football field on hand if you’re in a more energetic mood… perfect for a kick-about or a hearty round of cricket. Why not hold a tournament on the badminton court?
Let the kids loose in the dedicated children’s play area, while more refined types can easily enjoy a game of croquet on the main lawn. Nature-lovers, meanwhile, will revel in spotting the many visitors to the gardens, grounds, and ponds – including woodpeckers and badgers, deer and foxes, and even endangered newts. If you’ve brought your dogs along, you’ll also find safely enclosed garden areas for them to run around in.
Oh, and there are plenty of opportunities to elevate your stay if you’re planning a ‘pull all the stops out’ celebration. Arrange a murder-mystery evening, organise a pop-up cinema (popcorn included!) in the grounds, book a falconry display, or pamper yourselves with spa treatments and hot tub dips (hot tubs are available to rent at an additional charge). The list is never-ending, so just ask!
Further afield lies the mesmerising Somerset countryside, with plenty more delights to discover – including a pub just up the road! Yet you may find life at Cossington Park Estate so idyllic, that you feel compelled to stay put… all holiday long.

What the guests of Cossington Park Estate say
Cottage
“Cossington Park Cottage takes the expression ‘home from home’ to a whole new level. This luxury holiday cottage just oozes style and sophistication and is set in the most beautiful part of Somerset. It’s perfect for a relaxing break away in the countryside, and there’s lots in the nearby area to explore. The cottage is immaculately presented, pristinely clean, and has everything you need to self-cater in style. My dogs absolutely loved their welcome hamper, and it was so lovely to have a fully enclosed secure garden so that I didn’t have to worry about their safety.Thank you again for the most wonderful few days. We will definitely be back to visit you again in the future.”
Park House
“My family celebrated two significant birthdays over a weekend at Cossington Park. Graham is always available to answer questions and provides all the advance information that one could wish for. We were welcomed on arrival and shown round by Pete. The atmosphere in the house was testament to many years of happy family life. The presence of family portraits everywhere and the furnishings created an immensely welcoming and relaxing environment. The grounds were a joy to explore and the younger members of the family were spoilt for choice in what they could do: they were determined to try everything. In fact, everyone from 80 to 3 had the most memorable time. It was a treat to find everything one could wish for and more in the kitchen areas. There was never a query when catering for 12 people of how to manage. My grandson, age 5, declared we must all come again next summer. And that says it all.”
Estate
“We were looking for a special, quality venue for a whole family get together for my mothers 80th birthday and could not be happier that we found this wonderful place. My mother, four children all the grandchildren, youngest 11 to 26 spent the perfect weekend in Cossington.
Loads of room for each family to have their respective space and an array of communal areas to be together. We stayed in both the house and cottage and both were comfortable, incredibly well equipped, comfortable beds, wonderful and interesting decor and history throughout and so much to do for everyone. We loved the incredibly well kept gardens and were fortunate with the weather so could spend a lot of time outside. The badminton courts, football pitch, table tennis, games room and even croquet were all enjoyed. We ate pears and apples from the trees, tomatoes and beans from the walled vegetable gardens. Kate Hunt, recommended by Graham cooked us an amazing celebratory dinner on the first night and the food was delicious. All 16 of us had dinner comfortably in the wonderful library. The two dogs could roam safely and even had their own special welcome hamper as we did we, full of lovely much appreciated goodies.”
