A unique, blissfully secluded clifftop retreat on the North Cornish coast, with incredible views across Bude Bay, and the South West Coast Path waiting just outside the garden gate.
  • Sleeps: 8
  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 4
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

A characterful and secluded clifftop retreat, Cancleave occupies a dreamlike location on the North Cornish coastal road, between Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay.

In other words, if you need your holiday home to boast truly magnificent views, this is the perfect place. Set within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you can cradle a cuppa and gaze out across Bude Bay, all the way to Lundy Island… a breath-taking panorama that changes with the seasons.

(In fact, the view is so incredible during stormy weather that you may find yourselves wishing the sunshine away!)

Inside awaits an energy-efficient, thoughtfully-furnished haven for up to 8 guests, and their two well-behaved dogs or cats. Family-owned since 1962, Cancleave recently underwent a complete makeover, using as many local products and services as possible.

The effect is homely and welcoming, with plenty of contemporary style and flashes of colour that mean you’ll feel wonderfully relaxed from the moment you arrive – particularly since you’ll also be greeted by some delicious local goodies!

The sociable, open-plan living and dining space includes a sleek, modern kitchen for feast preparation, and in the unlikely event that you tire of gazing at magnificent views from enormous windows, there’s a 50″ Smart TV to keep you entertained. Just switch on the underfloor heating and light the wood-burning stove to feel ridiculously cosy.

On sunny days, simply head through the bi-fold doors to the patio and large lawned garden, and get wonderfully lost in the sights and sounds of coastal nature.

More information

Not only is the South West Coast Path waiting just outside the garden gate, but if you’re agile enough, you can also take the rugged path directly down to the atmospheric Cancleave Strand.

When it’s finally time for bed, there are two double and two twin bedrooms to choose from, each room cosily furnished for a sound night’s sleep. All but one of the bedrooms features its own en-suite, and there’s a separate family bathroom that means nobody has to queue for that all-important morning freshen-up.

After a hearty home-cooked breakfast, lace up your walking boots and take the South West Coast Path to Bude (turn right) or Crackington Haven (turn left) – both accessible in around an hour-and-a-half.

You could also take the footpath just across the road, down to the pebbled beach of Millook Haven, or visit some of Cornwall’s most iconic attractions, including Bodmin Moor and the Eden Project.

Though whatever you decide to do, we recommend making it back to Cancleave just in time to pour a glass of wine and welcome another incredible sunset.
