Bottle Lodge is thought to date all the way back to 1806: an intriguing octagonal stone building with an ogee domed roof, whose unmistakeable silhouette resembles (you guessed it) a bottle!

Gloriously secluded in the heart of Staffordshire countryside, at the entrance to the former Tixall Estate, the history-infused lodge is perfect for a well-deserved romantic escape.

Over six years, the once-dilapidated building has been painstakingly transformed into a boutique two-storey retreat, using traditional materials and bespoke oak joinery. With handcrafted finishes throughout, the detail-rich interiors blend luxury with heritage, so you’ll feel as though you’re staying in a living piece of history.

Bottle Lodge is a cosy and compact retreat, yet its creative Tiny House-style design means you’ll have all the holiday facilities you could need. In other words, despite your wonderful proximity to many of Staffordshire’s most beautiful walks, you could easily stay put all holiday long!

You may certainly decide to put those sightseeing plans on hold awhile, once you’ve checked in and relaxed. The ground floor is resplendent with a comfy living space and Smart TV, as well as a small, beautifully-crafted kitchen and dining area for romantic suppers.

When it’s time for bed, simply take the narrow staircase to your vaulted double bedroom, nestled under the original domed roof with striking wooden beams. There’s even an enclosed walk-in shower, for easy morning freshen-ups.

Ease into a new day out on the private patio, cradling a mug of your favourite morning pick-me-up, and watch the surrounding countryside coming slowly to life. You’ll also have access to a third of an acre of flourishing gardens with wide open fields beyond – ideal for lazy strolls peppered with laughter-fuelled conversation.

Things to note

The retreat is best suited to a couple. As a compact and historic building with narrow stairs, tight spaces and low ceilings, sadly it cannot accommodate children, pets, or additional guests. Please note that the lodge is set by a country road which can be busy at times – all windows have secondary glazing to help reduce traffic noise.
