Sleeping a romantic couple and their well-behaved dog, The Pump House is a mesmerising retreat that used to help supply water to Chillington Hall and its farm buildings, on the beautiful Staffordshire and Shropshire borders.

The cottage still boasts many of its original features, which combine seamlessly with mod-cons that include a Freeview Smart TV, and a well-equipped kitchen with an electric cooker and dishwasher.

Curl up in the superking bed (there’s a Smart TV in the bedroom, too!) and once you’ve freshened up in the generous bathroom, it’s time to explore.

The 4,000-acre Chillington Hall estate is an excellent base from which to discover both Staffordshire and Shropshire, and you can get dreamily lost in the Capability Brown-landscaped park, lake and woodlands.

Penkridge Wharf and the Shropshire Union Canal are close by, and Birmingham, Ludlow, and Worcester are all easy to reach by car – with an endless choice of things to see and do.
