A sumptuous, dog-friendly coastal cottage for whole-family escapes, steeped in fascinating history and beautifully set just 25 metres from the sea.
  • Sleeps: 10
  • Bedrooms: 5
  • Bathrooms: 4
  • Minimum stay: 3-7 nights

Featured as one of the UK’s Best Coastal Cottages by The Sunday Times, Blue Monkey Cornwall is dreamily set between Cawsand and Kingsand, right on the edge of the beach.

Grade II-listed, from outside the sumptuous retreat looks for all the world like a quaint, unassuming fisherman’s cottage. Yet once you’ve stepped inside, you’ll be enthralled not only by its size, but by its perfect blend of original features with modern luxury.

Sleeping up to 10 guests in five bedrooms, there are four bathrooms (translation: no cross-legged morning queues!) and plenty of beautifully-furnished space for everyone to stretch out and relax in. Oh, and with well-behaved dogs also welcome to stay, nobody has to stay behind at home.

Blue Monkey has enjoyed several identities in the past: as a shop, tea rooms, and also as a cannonball store that supplied the local fort. Named for its historic significance, ‘Monkey’ refers to the triangular formation of stacked cannon balls, while ‘Blue’ comes from a village pub known as the Blue Anchor – a pub where it’s said Admiral Lord Nelson used to frequent!

Boasting a huge stone fireplace and super-comfy seating, the living room is the perfect setting for everybody to unwind… perhaps cradling a digestif after a banquet-like catered meal. But if you’d rather prepare your own feasts, you’ll find the sociable, country-style kitchen area gainfully equipped with everything you could possibly need.

There’s a dining room with comfy oak chairs and a large table to break bread around, softly illuminated by hanging candles set within the exposed stone wall. Don’t worry – there’s dining furniture out in the idyllic walled garden, too… ideal for a side helping of fresh sea air.

When it’s finally time to turn in, make your choice between three boutique-style double bedrooms – two with en-suite facilities – one twin, and one bunk room. You’ll find the beds dressed in crisp Egyptian cotton linen for a sound, snuggly night’s sleep, with a stack of fluffy towels for your morning freshen-up routine.

What the guests of Blue Monkey Cornwall say

“Our stay in Blue Monkey was fabulous. The house is great, very comfortable, scrupulously clean and excellently equipped. The courtyard garden was lovely with colourful plants, outdoor furniture and gas BBQ. We were three generations and 2 dogs fully occupying the house and there was plenty of room for everyone. The games and toys provided were a very nice touch. We all had great fun on the kayaks, paddle boards, body boards and the grandchildren also enjoyed rock pooling with the little fishing nets all provided. There’s something for everyone in Kingsand/Cawsand with beaches, plenty of walks, good pubs and a fun ferry ride over to Plymouth if the fancy takes. Blue Monkey provided an excellent information package with everything you needed to know and more before your stay.I would thoroughly recommend.”

“Blue Monkey is breathtaking; the bedrooms were super cosy and comfortable, the living rooms were spacious and accommodating but the kitchen was just exceptional! It had everything we could ever need. Location-wise, it cannot be beaten! The sea, the coffee shops and the Cornish beer all on your doorstep… literally! We’ve already booked our return visit and we simply cannot wait. As our 2 year old said ‘I love the monkey house!”

“It’s safe to say we fell in love with Cawsands and Blue Monkey and have already booked our return trip. Blue Monkey is so well equipped. We really didn’t need to bring anything. We were particularly impressed with the provisions for children and the kitchen. We were a big group of 6 adults and 5 kids (age 0-12). The kitchen had everything we could need for big communal meals around the huge table, and loads of things we wouldn’t have expected. The bedrooms are a fab size and the beds are really comfy. The location is perfect. A stones throw to the beaches, which is particularly useful when trying to get everybody out of the house and inevitably forgetting stuff. We barely left the village! Thank you Blue Monkey for a wonderful holiday and we can’t wait to come back!”
