Bleibe Casitas Flotantes is an innovative initiative from a local team of entrepreneurs, designed to promote houseboats as sustainable holiday homes throughout Mexico.
Expertly crafted from recyclable building materials and natural wood, the team’s first, one-of-a-kind houseboat is set by the shores of the dreamy Lagoon of Seven Colours (Laguna de los Siete Colores) in Bacalar.
So-called because of its hypnotic spectrum of blue hues – ranging from shimmering sapphire to dazzling turquoise – the lagoon-views are gloriously enthralling. Better still, you can take a refreshing early-morning dip right from your bed, then shade from the afternoon sun under the garden’s majestic Pucté tree… bliss.
You’ll find all the facilities you could need on board, including a comfy queensize sofa bed, a compact kitchen/diner, air conditioning, and a piping hot rain shower. You’ll also enjoy sublime views from every room, while not one but two terraces – one above and one below – come equipped with furniture and a sound system for easy lounging.
The town centre is far enough away for you to feel blissfully secluded, yet close enough to explore by foot. There’s plenty of scope for boating and kayaking on the water, too… or simply sitting back and watching this incredible part of the world go by.
