Elevated 7,000 feet on a scenic three-acre mountain peak in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, Barrett House was designed in 1971 by celebrated architect Charles Haertling, and borders Roosevelt National Forest, for the most amazing natural views you’re ever likely to set eyes upon.

Boasting three bedrooms and three bathrooms (translation: you’ll never have to queue to freshen up!) this is not only an incredibly striking retreat, but an eco-friendly one, with cork flooring and rugs cleverly made from recycled plastic bottles.

Meanwhile, the décor is unique and mesmerising, and the facilities luxurious and plentiful. Delights include a roaring fireplace to snuggle around, and a theatre room – complete with movie-star portraits and squishy seating – to keep you entertained.

You may not want to spend much time inside, however.  Particularly when there’s an outdoor dining table to break bread at, a cosy hammock to relax in, and a hot tub to welcome the stars from… all with breath-taking mountain scenery.

Though you’ll feel as though you’ve left civilisation far behind, downtown Boulder is less than 10 miles away, and there’s a wealth of unique attractions in easy reach.

Explore the wildlife-steeped National Forest, or head into nearby Denver for a Coors brewery tour, or to browse the magnificent Botanic Gardens – your choice!
