The sleepy market town of Cockermouth is well-known for two reasons. One as the birthplace of the famed Romantic poet William Wordsworth, and two for its heavenly Lake District scenery.

Just 13 miles from bustling Keswick, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered another world entirely as you arrive at The Saints Rooms, a spectacular conversion of a listed church hall.

The owners have carefully renovated the four-storey building so that it retains its proud historic look and feel… fitting, when you think William Wordsworth once attended school within the rustic walls.

Yet they’ve also infused plenty of contemporary style, and with lavish furniture and accessories sourced from all four corners of the globe, the effect is truly jaw-dropping.

Sleeping up to 16 guests, the impressively grand entrance hall offers a taste of the opulence to come… in other words, now’s the time to prepare your phone for all those Insta updates!

You’ll find a sophisticated library on the first floor, together with a gleaming emerald kitchen that boasts a range cooker, and plenty of high-end appliances worthy of the most discerning chef.

Savour those home-cooked feasts around the magnificent circular dining table in the entertainment hall, under a dramatic vaulted ceiling adorned with the original beams and twinkling chandeliers.  The hall is also home to a sociable bar, a multi-games table, and a huge Smart TV complemented by a squishy corner sofa.

Follow the stairs down to the original crypt, to be greeted by an indulgent spa room with a wooden sauna and an eight-seater sunken pool, with mood lighting and a sound system… and even a Smart TV, in case you feel like watching a film as you soak you cares away.

You’ll have eight bedrooms to choose from, all rich in individual glamour – in fact, some even feature golden loos!  Discover the most extravagant suite on the second floor, boasting an emperor size bed and a freestanding bathtub, with a balcony that overlooks the entertainment hall.

There’s a four-poster superking room with its own private bathroom on the first floor, while on the ground floor await a superking room, a four-poster kingsize, two double twins, a double, and a single twin.

Your favourite bedroom claimed, all that’s left to do is head outside for drinks and a sizzling sunset supper in your dedicated barbecue area, and watch the golden sun sink over that incredible Lake District landscape.
