Pele towers are small stone structures that were built in the north of England, to withstand Scottish sieges back in the 14th century. In peacetime however, the Grade I-listed Whitehall Pele Tower makes for a magnificently cosy escape for up to eight guests, plus one well-behaved pet.
Set within an acre of historic grounds, the grand tower will not only make you feel as though you’ve arrived at your very own mini stately home, but you’ll be in the perfect position to explore both the Lake District and the Solway Coast.
Enjoy games and cocktails on the large lawns, then snuggle up together inside by evening, telling stories in front of the huge Tudor stone fireplace. Meanwhile, gently arched windows look out over tranquil pastureland.
There’s plenty of space for everybody to do just what they like, whether that’s getting competitive over table tennis in the games room, or curling up with a good book in the first-floor lounge.
You’ll have four comfy bedrooms to choose from; a double and twin on the first floor and a further double and twin on the second. Yet with so much to see and do all around you, it’s likely you won’t be sleeping for very long!
