New to Host Unusual: Amazing glamping, a romantic lodge, a Devon eco-retreat and a private island

12 July 2017

Acquaint yourself with four of our exciting new members here at Host Unusual. If it’s good enough for George Clarke, it’s good enough for us, as an Amazing Spaces featured property in Wiltshire provides our starting point. Next, we find romance and intrigue at a remote, romantic lodge in Scotland, then get active in some brand new geodomes on the Devon coast, before finally dropping the pace completely on a secluded private island retreat in Loch Sunart where wildlife and serenity replace technology and television.

Glamping Orchard

The Cotswolds has long been a favourite in the UK for its picture-postcard villages, countryside views and market towns. A great setting it would seem for this excellent glamping retreat which opened last year to high acclaim, with George Clarke himself paying a visit. The Warwick Knight is a dreamy 1950s caravan restored with finesse to create an incredibly unique and stylish space, with a sunny roof garden and spacious vintage interior with room for 4. For those who prefer canvas to caravans, Belle is for you – a luxurious tent sleeping up to 5 with your very own log burner and private outdoor area with fire pit. Sounds heavenly to us!

Knoydart Hide

One for the seriously indulgent grown-ups looking to escape from it all and enjoy quality time together, Knoydart Hide is a romantic and contemporary hideaway lodge set within its own private space on the Knoydart Peninsula. Everything here says grand and exuberant luxury, with an antique 7ft half tester canopy bed, freestanding bath tub, in-house masseuse treatments, outdoor hot tub, infra-red sauna with floor-to-ceiling glass wrap around windows, monsoon showers – it’s as if they thought of everything! The setting is beautifully remote, in a woodland space on Scotland’s west coast with mountains to one side and the sea to the other – simply breathtaking.

Koa Tree Camp

Situated on a 30-acre flourishing farm tantalisingly close to the pretty Devonshire coastline, Koa Tree Camp is an eco-friendly glamping retreat that features a range of show-stopping accommodation such as brand new space-age geodomes, rustic log cabins and spacious bell tents. You will find no shortage of things to do onsite here: make friends with the resident goats Pete and Archie, maybe even get involved in the farming schedule, arrange a massage or art class, play a game of ping pong, strap up your surfboard and head down to surf school to catch some waves along the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast, or simply relax. By night, watch a film under the blanket of stars with your fellow campers.

The Isle of Carna

We all sometimes feel the need to teleport ourselves far away from the rest of civilisation somewhere truly remote and special, and away from our increasing reliance on technology. If this sounds like something you need, the Isle of Carna is exactly where you should head.  Whisk yourself away to your own private Scottish island that teems with wildlife such as otters, sea eagles, whales, dolphins, deer and more. This is a 600-acre retreat with cosy self-catering and no television to distract you – but why would you need a television when you have glorious hills, beaches, coves and waterfalls to explore? Whilst there is 24-hour radio contact with the mainland should you need it, we’re guessing you’ll be too busy tuning into your inner calm.
