Tulbagh Geodome
South Africa / Tulbagh, Western Cape
Full description
A private hideaway with a stargazing outdoor bath, surrounded by water and nestled on a vast farm in the South African Winelands.
A true ‘bucket list' destination, Tulbagh is one of the most historic, culturally significant - and beautifully scenic - areas in South Africa.
Fringed by rolling mountains on three sides, and boasting glorious river-and-valley views, Tulbagh's celebrated wine route is also home to some of the finest wines you're ever likely to sample.
And it's here, in a perfectly selected spot on a vast, 270-hectare farm, that you'll discover Tulbagh Geodome. A private and outrageously romantic couple's hideaway, stand-out features include an outdoor bath that showcases such mesmerising scenery, you'll never want to get out!
Surrounded by tranquil, shimmering water, whispering trees, and gardens stuffed with fruit trees and aromatic herbs, you'll feel blissfully submerged in nature - with no buildings or other people in sight.
But that doesn't mean there'll be any compromising on creature comforts throughout your stay.
Along with plenty of cosy and contemporary furnishings, you'll find the galvanised dome equipped with kitchen facilities that include a fridge, a gas stove, and all the cooking equipment you could possibly need.
Overlooking the dam and the Witzenburg mountain range, the aforementioned al fresco bath and piping-hot shower make the most of those magnificent natural views (tip: grab a bottle of bubbles and indulge in a sunset dip for sensory heaven!) The decking is even set over different levels, so that every time you change position, so will the scenery.
The dome is also cleverly sealed for protection from the elements - not to mention large creepy-crawlies! There's a fan to help cool those sun-soaked afternoons... though there's a wealth of natural ways to refresh yourselves, including nominating a favourite tree for shade... and naturally, plunging headlong into the dam for an energising swim.
Meanwhile, you can feast on pure, fresh mountain water, and help yourselves to as much fresh fruit and herbs as you're able to pick.
If you don't fancy lazing languorously around all day (though we can't imagine why that would be the case!) there's a Cape Epic mountain bike track to test your wheels on, and a waterfall hiking trail that doubles as an Instagrammer's dream.
Bustling Cape Town is an hour and a half away, and if you're interested in finding out more about the enthralling local heritage, there are no less than five museums to choose from.
Oh, and of course, there's always that amazing wine route to try out!
Things to note
Check in after 2pm, check out by 10am. There is no TV or Wi-Fi. Please note that the dome is not suitable for children, and pets are not permitted.
