An elegantly historic Essex retreat, set in an ancient village and surrounded by the fresh, rolling landscapes of the South Downs.

Originally built in 1934, and standing proudly in the ancient Essex village of Latchingdon, The Tower was the recent winner of Maldon's coveted Building Conservation Award.

You'll see why just as soon as you arrive. The three-storey Tower cuts an imposing dash, sleeping up to six guests in stylish, simply elegant surroundings that are perfectly in keeping with the building's history.

There are plenty of elegant and luxurious touches to revel in as you explore your new holiday home, including soft floor lighting that adds a subtle glow to your evenings, and an opulent rainfall shower room.

You'll also discover a circular ‘Engineer's Room' study on the ground floor...ideal if you have to catch up on work, or if you're simply looking for a quiet place to curl up with a good book.

Head up to the first floor, and to the grand kingsize master bedroom with its own ensuite, plus a gleaming freestanding bathtub it'll be impossible not to fill up with indulgent bubbles immediately.

There are two more bedrooms on this floor; a double room with a bath, and a third double room with shared access to the family bathroom. The landing features a relaxing viewing area, which will whet your appetites for the stunning scenery you'll discover once you've headed up the stairs to the second floor.

Because it's right here that you'll want to spend the majority of your time. Home to a stunning, south-facing open plan lounge, dining room and well-equipped kitchen, there's also a 12-metre wide glass wall that opens beautifully out onto a large, balustrade-bordered terrace.

Simply pop open a well-deserved bottle of bubbles, then catch up with your favourite people as you surround yourselves with views that stretch across the River Crouch, all the way out to Southend-on-Sea and the North Downs beyond. Sunset-watching was never more captivating!

Once you've taken in all the beauty of your immediate surroundings, it's time to get out and explore. Nearby Burnham-on-Crouch is a great start, a former oyster port with a romantic, nautical feel. Why not take a ferry trip over the River Crouch to Wallasea Island, a true birdwatcher's delight?

Head for the ancient town of Maldon if you're a fan of medieval architecture...and of course, shopping! A trip to the Chapel of St. Peter on the Wall - the oldest church in England - is well worth a visit, too.

Wherever you end up, you're sure to pine for another evening spent on that amazing terrace back at the Tower, swapping holiday stories and clinking glasses together in celebration of a memorable holiday.
