The Shepherd’s Retreat is located on the owners’ grounds, perfectly positioned to overlook rolling hills and fields. Everything you need is in this one spot, meaning you can enjoy perfect privacy throughout your stay, yet your hosts are easily on hand if you need them. With your own garden area, two patios and self-catering facilities inside your shepherd’s hut, this self-contained bolthole lives up to its name as a true retreat from the world!

The gorgeous green exterior and classic cream woodwork of The Shepherd’s Retreat complement the lush surroundings, offering a dose of country charm. Three steps lead you into a small porch area, where you’ll find handy space for boots, coats and brollies.

From here, a stable door takes you to the open-plan living area, with all you need to cook, eat, relax and unwind! The small-but-perfectly-formed kitchen offers bespoke wooden cabinets finished in stylish sage, topped with beautiful wooden worktops. The under-counter fridge is large enough to store all your favourite ingredients, while the electric oven and hob makes light work of any romantic meal! You’ll also find crockery, cutlery and glasses, as well as sugar, tea and coffee (granules and ground for purists!).

Enjoy your meals at the foldaway breakfast bar, ideally placed for magnificent views through the French doors. You’ll also find a comfy leather sofa here – perfect for snuggling in front of your favourite DVD or TV show – while cushions, blinds and curtains in a charming duck print will leave you feeling truly at home.

And if you have any worries about shepherd’s huts being cold and draughty, think again. The Shepherd’s Retreat is kept beautifully warm by both luxurious underfloor heating and a wonderfully cosy log burner, so you’ll be perfectly toasty whatever the weather!

From the living area, a door takes you to the completely separate bedroom (a rarity in a shepherd’s hut!). With its comfy double bed topped with charming cushions and plush linen, as well as plenty of storage space, you’ll feel miles from anywhere as you drift off to sleep, with just the gentle moonlight slipping through your window.

The first of your private patio areas is where you’ll find a BBQ for sizzling your summertime favourites, while the second patio offers outdoor seating and the fantastic hot tub. As you unwind in the jets with that glorious view before you, you might have to pinch yourself to check you’re really here (spoiler alert: you are!).

If you can drag yourself away from The Shepherd’s Retreat, there’s so much more to discover from your doorstep. Luckily, you’ll find a rucksack, picnic rug and flask indoors, so pack your favourite food and find the perfect picnic spot for a romantic day in the Dales. Take a walk along the River Nidd and keep a keen eye for birdlife, while the nearby village of Summerbridge has a range of excellent hostelries for a well-earned drink afterwards. And for a bit more bustle, both popular Harrogate and historic Ripon are within a half-hour drive.
